Day 208 of the war.
#Russia's grotesque war on #Ukraine. This is the daily thread.

A new week, but a national holiday in the #UK - the funeral of Elizabeth II and a new photo - her last ever portrait.

Goodbye our Queen, and thank you.
Fewer stories on Sunday than for a long time, which is a relief as that usually means fewer civilian deaths in #Ukraine.

But there was still plenty to write about - if you missed anything, scroll through yesterday's thread with this link:

I'm just back in the UK from #Poland
Plans now in place for purchase & distribution of however much equipment we can buy to help #Ukraine's brave soldiers for winter

We're up to £1,560 but we need more.
Please dig deep, share on Facebook, Insta, anywhere

Right on cue to prove they need our help, one region of #Ukraine has come under a massive attack tonight.

Eight missiles have landed in #Zaporizhzhia, information is still scarce, but we think two important infrastructure sites have been hit.

#StopRussia #StandWithUkraine
One guy was filming from afar when the missiles hit #Zaporizhzhia oblast, but the sound wave was still deafening

We now think infrastructure in the #Tokmak area's been hit by #Russia

Again they fired with S-300 air defence missiles, quite possibly those moved from St Petersburg
Some reports saying 10 rockets landed in the #Zaporizhzhia region (so far).

There were a lot of power outages immediately after the strikes, but electricity has been restored in some areas.

This the moment one missile hit #Ukraine ground.

#Zaporozhe #StopRussia
Earlier tonight there were reports that #Ukraine's second largest nuclear power plant had been hit.

It's in #Yuzhnoukrainsk near #Kostyantynivka in #Mykolaiv oblast.
But radiation levels are stable and it looks like only communications have been hit.

#StopRussia
In the last few minutes there's been another explosion in #Mykolaiv (RU: #Nikolaev) region.
Hopefully air defence working for #Ukraine.

The sirens are still sounding.
#SaveUkraine #RussiansGoHome
Interesting photos published by TG channel UAonlii which shows how little light there is in #Ukraine compared to 7 months ago.

These are pictures from space of 24 February and now. A subtle but stark contrast - look how many small towns/villages just 'disappeared'

#StopRussia
Only just realised I didn't post the new photo of Queen Elizabeth II which I promised at the start of today's thread, so here it is now.
Another #Wagner base destroyed by #Ukraine.

That's the claim as pinpoint strikes hit this building in Occupied #Kadiivka (RU #Stakhanov) in #Luhansk oblast.

#SlavaUkraini #StopRussia
One would think sooner or later #Russia's cannon fodder would work it out for themselves: not only does #Ukraine have these incredible #HIMARS but they're clearly getting very good intel from locals, these hits won't just be from drone info.

#RussiansGoHome alive while you can!
Speaking of Intel. Here's the British daily update.
This time #Russia's pilots are criticised and likely being put in overly dangerous positions. I didn't think the beloved Air Force 'heroes' would also be cannon fodder 😅

#StopRussia #StandWithUkraine
For the first time we see close-up the state of the local government building in occupied #Kherson.

This place was hit with #HIMARS on Friday.

#SlavaUkraini #RussiansGoHome
I could write for hours about this. If ever something summed up the vile double standards, sick mentality, pettiness & numerous other things it's here

5 months ago Mr Petrakov said he wanted to fight Putin's invaders, now #Russia hopes he's banned for it

theguardian.com/world/2022/sep…
During the night I reported on the attacks on #Zaporizhzhia

We now know one pensioner was injured when #Russia's missile hit houses in a village and she was trapped under rubble.

Two shells hit a transformer substation near a residential area in the city itself.
#SaveUkraine
"PUT-IN ASAP"
Yesterday protesters in #Oslo brought a blood-spattered effigy of #Russia's warmonger in a coffin to #Norway's parliament.
#Ukraine's President says "#Russia endangers the whole world"

A new webcam video is published of missiles hitting the country's second biggest nuclear power plant shortly after midnight.

As I wrote in this thread earlier, thankfully only communications equipment was damaged.
After recent stories about those who break curfews in #Ukraine being "encouraged" to sign up for the military, few people take any chances.

Look at the number of requests this taxi driver gets in the final few minutes before it's illegal to be on the streets of #Kyiv
A big tragedy unfolding in #Donetsk
At least 13 people are dead with bodies and body parts strewn all over streets in the #Kuibyshevskyi district.

#Ukraine's Intelligence had warned of a false flag event in the Occupied areas yesterday or today.
Both sides will blame each other
There are numerous videos from the scene of the massacre in #Donetsk knocking around, but all are too grizzly to show on Twitter. I've taken some screenshots and had to block out bodies ripped in two by today's blast.
#SaveUkraine
Some more photographs from the police in #Zaporizhzhia showing the destruction from some of the rocket attacks in the villages of the region.

#StandWithUkraine #StopRussia
I've added a couple of updates to the Crowdfunder.
Some pictures now on this page showing what your money will be buying and I'm attaching them here too.

We're at 17% of the target. Please help - can you buy a hero a poncho?

Smoke is seen rising from near the HydroElectric plant in #Kakhovka region of occupied #Kherson.

#StopRussia #RussiansGoHome
Exhumations of the victims of #Russia's aggression continues in #Izium (Izyum)

Meanwhile the town itself - well we knew what to expect. Every single village, town or city - just one aim for the evil invaders, to destroy everything.

#Kharkiv #Kharkov #StopRussia
Yesterday I brought news of students freed from Russian captivity in #Ukraine.

The Sri Lankans have given interviews today, describing
* Beatings on the feet
* made to work as slaves for Russians
* 1 toilet break of 1 min + 1 of 2 min per day
* 1 shower every 5 days
We've had reports today of explosions in both occupied #Melitopol and #Ukraine-held #KryvyiRih. But no further details or even confirmation of either.

The smoke rising in Melitopol was again seen at the airport, which has been repeatedly hit in recent days.
#Ukraine's PM and First Lady attended today's State funeral for Queen Elizabeth II.

The Prime Minister published this tweet and on Telegram says he's invited King Charles III to visit #Ukraine.

#StandWithUkraine 🇬🇧💙💛🇺🇦

The prevailing thought in #Ukraine tonight is that #Russia is panicking and desperate to announce Luhansk and Donetsk as part of #Russia as soon as possible.

Then any 🇺🇦attack can be judged an attack on 🇷🇺, enabling a declaration of war and full mobilisation, potentially nukes.
#Ukraine's new Prosecutor General confirms 5 children have been sexually assaulted by Russian invaders during the war. The youngest just 4 years of age.

#Russia's telling its tourists heading to #Turkiye to take cash. It comes after two more Turkish banks announced they won't accept Russian payment cards.

Sure the Turkish criminals are looking forward to welcoming a whole nation of tourists with pockets and cases of cash!
There was one more chapter of #RussiaOnFire today and an interesting one too.

The Kremlin would like you to believe this was just a "paint and varnish plant" in #Izhevsk.

But the city is one of the main centres of manufacturing for the military. Sabotage possibility moderate
#Russia has released CCTV footage it says is of the moment someone threw a Molotov cocktail at the country's embassy in #Canada.

Moscow has summoned the Canadian ambassador to the Kremlin.

cbc.ca/player/play/20…
Incredible. In #Yakutia employees of #Gazprom were ordered to "give" 1,000 rubles ($17) each to the military for medicines (cough, cough)

That's over 40% of the average weekly wage in this freezing part of #Russia, which is just 2,370 rubles.

Wednesday 20 May is Day 1547 of Putin's catastrophic full invasion of its peaceful neighbour.

Russia has lost a large part of a generation of men - dead, dying or those who managed to emigrate. Reserves spent, economy collapsing.
Putin, not Zelenskyy, is Russia's biggest enemy
Let's start the daily thread in the traditional manner with the link for the start of Tuesday's thread.

A lot more destruction on both sides, as Putin grovels in China. Click, but remember to come back for today's news...

I'll start though with new photos leaked out of occupied Crimea.

You may remember I wrote about a large Ukraine attack at the weekend - and these photos are from a military airfield, thought to be Belbek. Image

Welcome to THE daily thread on Day 1546 of the war.

Russia is showing small signs of desperation.
More economic woes, more Ukraine air attacks deep inside Russia, a desperation to strengthen ties with allies and having to make new nuclear threats.

All the news in one place:
Here's the link back to the start of Monday's thread for those catching up.

A day when Russia lost more equipment, including a helicopter, but also bombed the hell out of Dnipro, while the EU looks for a lead negotiator to meet Putin.

One thing I learned last night I'll repost here as very few people saw it last night, and for Ukraine watchers it's very interesting and potentially important.

Will Zelenskyi dare fire Zaluzhnyi so he has no platform in the run up to an election?

Day 1541 of Russia's war on Ukraine - this is PART TWO of today's thread.

I'm restarting, and linking here to the 17 posts so far today (thread part one).
If I continued I would not able to see any replies.

I've now had confirmation of one fatality in Russia's attack on Kyiv.

The injury count is now up to 16.
This is a video from first responders, trying to rescue those trapped in a collapsed apartment building in the Darnytskyi district.
Air alerts are beginning to be lifted in more regions of Ukraine.
Among those is Khmelnytskyi, where there was a drone swarm on the military airbase. No damage is reported.

Hello again. It's the daily Ukraine thread on Day 1540 of Russia's full invasion of its peaceful neighbour, which never threatened nor ever fired a shot at Russia, until after the original 2014 invasion.

All the big news in one place, every single day. It's what I do!
Tuesday saw a late flurry by Ukrainian drones in Russia, while earlier the Terrorist State was having problems with self-starting fires.

Loads of other interesting stories in a near 50-post thread - missed anything? Click and scroll now:

A big daytime drone attack on Ukraine is ongoing as I type.

Explosions have been heard in Kyiv - air defence shooting them down as far as I can tell so far. About 30 Russian drones are attacking the region and city.

Day 1530 of the war in Europe.
After almost going through the night, it's a late start for me today, but details are now in from another dramatic night.

More civilians murdered in Ukraine, more Russian drones in NATO territory and more Russian ships hit.

Lots to catch up on..
We fell well short of 15k views yesterday despite a very long thread.

We ended with late night drone waves by Ukraine, while earlier on Saturday Russia was hitting buses and trains in another big daytime attack as Putin gets increasingly desperate.

First, news about Ukraine claims of striking THREE boats overnight.

The most significant hit during the new attack on Novorossiysk is the hit on the Karakurt, which was specifically protecting the oil terminal there.

It had 8 Kalibr missiles + a Pantsir air defence onboard Image

The morning after the night before. A dreadful 24 hours for Ukraine as Terrorism rained down on all four of 🇺🇦's biggest cities.

Russia acts with impunity. Putin & his commanders have got away with war crimes for 4 years, so what will change?

Here's the🧵for Day 1513
As I type, BSky is down, which causes problems as it's much easier to simul-post than go back & repost everything later.

So, like the old days before fascism took over here, I'm on X (itter) only.

But these problems are infinitesimally small compared to 1000s in Ukraine today.
A pretty astonishing 24 hours of round-the-clock day and night attacks from Russia. Trying to exhaust Ukraine's air defence missiles and also exhaust the operators too, no doubt.

Many, many civilian deaths and injuries.
This is how it unfolded..
