It solves the blockchain trilemma for any chain that wishes to deploy on it. It's a Layer 0 hub for other Layer 1s (parachains) to plug in to

But the future is multichain and those Layer 1s benefit from bridgeless interoperability through XCM which is analagous to @cosmos's IBC with an order of magnitude more security

8/ Why has Polkadot's mindshare been abysmal on CT?
It boils down to regulation. Polkadot took the road less traveled and focused on compliance so that they could unlock the decentralized internet by morphing from a security to software
This meant no mass marketing like others
