It's Wednesday 28 December. Day 308 of the war since #Russia invaded #Ukraine.
The (relative) calm continues in much of the country, but on the frontline it remains fierce.
All the news, updated live, in one thread, right here. Spread the word!
So no major missile attacks in #Ukraine, nor loss of life in minor incidents again, but as I type there are air raid warnings across the country, so never any complacency,
If you need to catch up on yesterday's news, here's the usual link:
It's still loud, cold, muddy and extremely tough on the front lines. Many eyes have been watching the situation in #Luhansk oblast, where #Ukraine made some marginal gains towards #Kreminna.
However, the British Intelligence report says #Russia has brought in significant back up
The New York Times isn't my most reliable publication, but they have an article saying #Ukraine's army came close to liberating #Kreminna
It's behind a paywall, but doesn't offer any great insight. This is better & translates well if you don't speak🇺🇦/🇷🇺 pravda.com.ua/news/2022/12/2…
The death of 550 more Russian troops has been declared by #Ukraine, although we still fall just short of 2,000 artillery systems as equipment losses remain fairly low.
After the Engels strike, #Ukraine's Defence Sec Oleksiy Danilov says there is no hiding place for #Russia's planes
"The enemy hides the Tu95MS + Tu-22MZ bombers, but there are not so many left. They take them to Primorsky Krai. But if necessary, we will also reach the Far East."
#Germany's Chancellor may be dithering and too scared to send the Leopards to #Ukraine, but little #Finland is stepping up to the mark.
Helsinki is prepared to send around 30 of its prized Leopard 2A4 tanks to Kyiv, but the Germans may yet block the deal
Days after the President made a surprise visit to #Bakhmut, #Ukraine's Head of Intelligence is also in the hot spot.
Kyrylo Budanov greeted troops and surveyed the situation on the frontline for himself.
No senior Russian is believed to have been directly at the battle-face.
#RussiaOnFire
Oops - this time "smoking" got serious - a military barracks near Rostov is destroyed.
Video from #Novocherkassk where locals say it was a new building for #Russia's 150th division.
A couple of rockets did land in #Kharkiv a little earlier this morning.
One is reported to have hit infrastructure in the Slobidskyi district. A 48 year old man was injured by shrapnel.
Many Russian soldiers and military equipment destroyed in a new strike in #Zaporizhzhia region according to RIA-Melitopol.
Its sources say #Ukraine rockets hit a RU base in Balochky village, approximately midway between ZP and Mariupol. 12 tanks and 2 APCs are said to be there.
Meanwhile #Ukraine's General staff confirms a strike I wrote about 2 days ago in #Chaplynka, just 10 miles or so from #Crimea.
They say #Russia lost around 50 soldiers in the attack on the town in southern #Kherson region.
A pro-Russian blogger says that although #Kreminna remains firmly in #Russia's hands, #Ukraine has gained a village just north-west of the town.
#Chervonopopivka is around 10km away from the centre of Kreminna, 6km from the outskirts. However, 🇺🇦 may have pushed further south
Unconfirmed reports of explosions in occupied #Tokmak. This town in around 60km north west of #Melitopol in #Zaporizhzhia oblast.
This is said to be a recent video from #Bohorodychne in northern #Donetsk region, quite near the border with #Kharkiv oblast.
One channel writes "People are forced to wade across the Seversky-Donets River to get to the Svyatohirsk Monastery to get food."
#Ukraine's naval force says all #Russia's Cruise-missile armed ships in the Black Sea have been returned to port
Today saw the expiry of the warning to local shipping and aircraft to avoid the area around Crimea.
It's likely the attack on the Engels air base postponed an attack
#Ukraine's Defence Minister today lists a string of war crimes including hitting civilians in #Kherson, destroyed churches and the kidnapping (forced deportation) of over 13,000 Ukrainian children.
1/2 #Ukraine proudly states they've had another oligarch detained overseas. However others say it's an abuse of power as Konstantin Zhevago is a political opponent.
Formerly an Independent & member of Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) party, he was in Parliament for 21 years til 2019.
2/2 Zhevago was detained in the French ski resort of Courchevel.
The State Bureau of Investigation says "he is a defendant in several criminal proceedings" including embezzling almost $70m from his Finance and Credit Bank through offshore companies between 2007-2014.
Some already shot down in the south, others heading north.
An explosion is heard in #Dnipro. It's not known if this is a drone hitting a target or air defence, though it sounds more likely the latter, fingers crossed.
Finally it seems the drone attack has ended. Three separate waves of launches by #Russia, resulting in some central regions having air raid warning sirens for over 2 hours.
No known casualties.
Air defence worked well, but each time it reveals positions to the Terrorist State.

There has still been the regular shelling during the night in #Ukraine
Two villages near #Zaporizhzhia were hit by #Russia's artillery. Also struck of course was #Nikopol, which I don't always mention in these threads but continues to be targeted daily.
In complete contrast to yesterday there is very little news to report.
This in itself has to be good news with not a single report of missiles or shelling so far and it's almost 6am in #Ukraine.
The de-Nazification/russification of #Ukraine continues.
In liberated #Izium 19 streets have changed names to shed Russian links. The town in #Kharkiv now honours Steve Jobs and Golda Meir instead. Meir, the 4th Prime Minister of Israel was born in #Kyiv.
First today sad news from #Kherson which has had a terrible 24 hours.
After the murder of 8 civilians when #Russia shelled the central market area, news now that 3 soldiers helping to demine formerly occupied areas have been killed.
One of the Kremlin's explosives blew them up.
How stupid are the occupiers?
Trying to raise the spirits of locals and spread propaganda in #Melitopol.
Except the Russians cannot even spell the town's name correctly - this says "Miletopol"🤡🤡🤦
Guys, we go again! No rest on the frontline for the brave warriors defending #Ukraine, so the least I can do is report on it and the least you can do is read and spread the news, ensure there is NO war fatigue.
Welcome to Saturday's news thread, Day 304 of #Russia's illegal war:
So much happened yesterday, including numerous fires in Russia, in Moscow in particular.
Then there was a likely assassination in Melitopol and reported drone attacks on Crimea.
