#Kherson keeps getting shelled. Each day, each night
#Germany has eased the situation a little with the supply of 7 powerful generators. Head of Kherson Yaroslav Yanushevich posted this photo saying 3 are for water/sewage system, one for cancer care + 3 to help power in the city
#Nikopol has already suffered its usual evening shelling too.
Yevhen Yevtushenko, head of the town, confirms rockets hit the Chervonohryhorivka community, but thankfully no-one was injured.
In #Sumy region a school and a farm were among the places damaged as #Russia fired on the region 144 times on 5 settlements during Sunday.
This is absolutely typical, but I don't always report the "smaller" shelling. No one was injured.
While frozen land is easier to move tanks/heavy artillery, it's awful for people with no heat.
Indeed more energy being used could lead to more power cuts.
A Russian soldier published a video "for posterity" showing the conditions as they are transported to war in #Ukraine
Bread strewn all over in the "kitchen"
The toilet a hole in the floor and no heat or light.
No wonder motivation is a problem!
#Kherson chat is alive again with a "barrage" on a small village south of the river Dnipro (left bank, occupied)
Mali Kopani can be difficult to find on maps, but it's about 30km south of Kherson city.
Most people saying around 15 rockets have hit something - presumably a 🇷🇺base
I saw this posted earlier and though you may like to see it.
It's a dashcam ride through the village of #Antonivka in #Kherson region. The place made famous by the oft-struck bridge across the Dnipro river.
The village was liberated on 11 November.
We all like a good news story.
"Be more Zelenskyy" is this message!
Yuriy Butusov, a famous journalist on the frontline, reports #Russia has entered some buildings in the town. However he says the paras of 46th Airmobile Brigade are still in control.
#Russia is gloating over this story, with an official of @ICRC telling State Media in Moscow that they've received around 50,000 requests to search for relatives since the war began.
Numerous questions remain. e.g.
Total for 🇷🇺+🇺🇦?
50k includes multiple requests?
Britain's Intel update does today actually contain 'intel' regarding the war.
Let's hope they sent this airfield's air defence to #Ukraine too!
With rumours that #Poland may announce giving Leopard tanks to #Ukraine in the very near future, there's also a decent lend-lease from #Russia!
This time the invaders fled leaving this 152-mm "Hyacinth-S" equipment for Ukrainian use to liberate their own land. #Kherson oblast.
#Ukraine's Intel says it has busted an underground cell of Anatoliy Shariy's outlawed "political" party.
They're alleged to be preparing mass riots in #Dnipropetrovsk region. Officers found instructions on provoking riots and hold street demos in support of Russia if occupied.
Farcical.
The man many see as the frontrunner to succeed #Putin, Secretary of #Russia's Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, has said "#Russia is not at war with #Ukraine, because, by definition, we cannot have hatred for ordinary Ukrainians"
Yet still they happily kill them!
Air Defence active over #Kharkiv oblast right now.
This spectacular scene greets drivers in #Kogalym. It's the second big fire in the autonomous Khanty-Mansi region in 24 hours.
The fire is at the Nefteavtomatika plant dealing with both oil and gas production. Casualties not yet known.
Ex-#Georgia Pres Saakashvili is too ill to listen to court proceedings.
A🇺🇸 doctor told court he needs urgent treatment abroad. Neurologist Shahin Emmanuel Lakhani said Saakashvili has convulsions, loss of consciousness, rapidly advancing dementia.
Supporters say he was poisoned
An old AN-2 bi-plane is said to have made a "hard landing" according to officials, after trying to get airborne again when aborting a landing in the #Nenets Autonomous region.
Two people died, 10 more are injured.
More air problems for #Russia with news this evening that a Moscow to Goa plane was forced to divert due to a bomb threat.
The Azur Air jet touched down in Gujarat.
Remarkable story here - a surgeon managed to remove a live "grenade" from a #Ukraine soldier
I'm not good at identifying weapons and ammo, but it was described as a grenade. As it had not exploded sappers supervised the surgeon Andriy Verba who's pictured with the device post-op
The demise of Sergey Shoigu has been predicted many times. I've never been convinced that #Putin would replace his Defence Minister, though he gave him some kind of warning when Shoigu disappeared from view for a while.
Now though there's a real chance he'll be fired next week.
My grateful thanks to Christiane and Marcel for buying me coffees this afternoon💙💛
Another person has been killed in shelling of #Kherson this evening.
Kyrylo Tymoshenko of the President's office says "The occupiers shelled the city once again. It fell right at the intersection of a residential quarter. A fire started in a private residential building."
More supplies coming from #Sweden and #Poland, with the Poles determined to release the Leopards!
Presidential Adviser in Warsaw, Jakub Kumoch says they'll give 10 Leopard-2s to #Ukraine "as an example to the west", while #Sweden is handing over Archer artillery systems.🇵🇱🇸🇪💕🇺🇦
A two year old child is among the injured in #Ochakiv.
Governor of #Mykolaiv Vitaliy Kim says the number of wounded is now 15.
However #Russia says it hit ammunition storage, pointing to this video of the huge explosion to support its claims of hitting a legitimate target.
Hello again. Day 1203 of Russia's genocidal war in Ukraine
Anyone with a brain slightly larger than that of a chihuahua knows it. Russian history and Putin's own words spelt it out, but peaceniks, Naziniks and idiotniks are still in denial
More proof coming up in🧵for Day 1203
Yesterday's thread lasted well over 24 hours, but nothing to be proud of.
I know I'm crazier than you, and thankfully you all have lives to live. So you will be needing the link to the start of yesterday's thread so you can catch up on what you missed..
Day 1201 of Europe's war.
But the pre-conflict hybrid war has already been waging worldwide for years. Hacking, election interference, sabotage - we're all targeted by Russia, even if we don't all realise it yet.
Ukraine can stop the war criminal with our help.
Welcome to the🧵
Maybe Sunday will bless Ukraine with a quiet day?
Saturday was another full-on journalistic stint, catching sleep when I could.
Kharkiv shattered overnight then a daytime attack on a kids' railway.
Operation Web 2.0 & a factory hit in Russia.
It's all ⬇️
1/2 Early this morning, just before the end of the previous thread I showed the Azot chemical plant in Tula region on fire.
Not long afterwards, Ukraine hit another facility, this time in Russia-controlled 🇺🇦
This is the Hydromash factory in Melitopol' in occupied Zaporizhzhia.
Day 1194 of Putin's war, though let's remember the initial invasion came 11 years ago.
Since February 2014, not once have western sanctions or military support come close to being enough to restore justice and defeat evil.
Welcome to THE daily 🇺🇦 thread for Sunday 1 June
A new day, a new season. Summer officially started, but nothing is likely to change just yet.
Y'day's thread had some great stories, but everything paled into insignificance when justy before midnight came news of a disaster in Russia's Bryansk region:
Another night of no sleep yet - dramatic action in Moscow.
Time to start another daily thread covering everything to do with Putin's disastrous 'operation' in Ukraine.
It's 5am in Russia and Ukraine, on Day 1190 of the war.
Let's begin...
I've still NEVER missed even one day since the start of Russia's full invasion.
But yesterday's thread ended up being one of the most lively. Another near 50-post story of the day, and if you like seeing "bavovna" in Russia, go right through to the end!
