Today it's Day 336 of #Russia's full invasion and war on #Ukraine.
It's also a special day for many people.
Burns' Night in #Scotland
St Dwynwen's Day for lovers in #Wales
While it's also the 45th birthday of @ZelenskyyUa - mnogo lita Mr President!
Here's the daily thread
@ZelenskyyUa It should also be a very special day for #Ukraine's military leaders with confirmation coming from #Germany and the #USA that the country's top fighting tanks are finally going to be given to the country.
The news leaked out y'day. Here's Tuesday's thread
It's also been a very pleasant start to the day for me, to see two more donations to my "coffee fund" this morning.
Eric and Renée (who has been super generous), I give you my sincerest thank yous.
And thanks to everyone who writes messages of support or kind words.
For the people in #Ukraine it's not been so great this Wednesday morning. The alarm sounded at just after 09:00 and they're still in bunkers with #Russia's planes in the air after taking off from #Belarus.
It's now 11 days since a heavy cruise missile attack.
While we wait for the official confirmation about Abrams tanks from America, and Germany agreeing to #ReleaseTheLeopards, another country joins in the "tank coalition"
Yesterday some state governors and more government officials quit - most of these appointed by Zelenskyy
As reported here, the corruption cleansing in #Ukraine does not involve USA aid according to the White House. It's the same for all foreign aid as far as I am aware, but doubtless there is some isolated "skimming off"
Interesting in the daily update from #Ukraine's General Staff, they allege that Ukrainian prisoners in occupied territories were deported to #Russia... and now they're trying to force the convicts to fight against their homeland.
A near record number of #Russia's troops killed in the last 24 hours according to #Kyiv.
The daily numbers show an enormous 910 lost their lives for Tsar Putin in a pointless and illegal war.
Pinpoint strikes and better defences also see an uptick in equipment numbers, +1✈️
After the recent mild spell, snow melt higher upstream has caused rivers to be swollen. This is the Desna in #Ukraine's capital. Temperatures now hover around 0c

In half an hour President Biden will give a speech, in which #Ukraine hopes he will announce Abrams tanks will be given to the fight against #Russia.
Some media already reporting 31 of the tanks, a value of $400m, will be sent from #USA to Ukraine.
Always difficult getting trustworthy information, but after monitoring local sites, this #Ukraine site reported multiple bangs, though it could have been air defence on the occupied peninsula.
One person's been killed after #Russia shelled #Zaporizhzhia today. She was trapped under the rubble, but had already died by the time her body was pulled free.
#Russia has raised three Tu-22M3s in the air. These are long-range strike bombers. They've left the Shaykovka airfield in Kaluga region, only 150 miles/240km from the border with #Ukraine
Air Defence in #Kherson seems to have shot down one drone near #Beryslav. Unconfirmed.
You guys are being great today...
thanks Jamie and Blake for coffee donations via the link on my profile page here.💙💛
Just to clarify in Dnipro it may all be the work of air defence, but that one explosion sounded much louder than the others could indicate a strike, or a drone falling on to populated areas.
Here's the sound of one of the blasts in #Dnipro - it may NOT be the "big one"
Also an explosion of some sort seems to have occurred in #Vilnyansk in #Zaporizhzhia region.
In #Kherson, explosions reported on both sides of the river. This could be shelling.
This sounds a little bigger in #Dnipro.
Hope it was a drone being taken out.
Also from earlier, #Russia's 'Calendar Man' was back out to pose at the site of a #Ukraine pinpoint hit.
This was the Music School in #Kreminna in #Luhansk oblast. #Ukraine says it was used by The Occupiers' troops
In #Dnipro they finally admit one explosion hit the city,
An "industrial enterprise" was struck by one of the drones. There were no victims.
Some sort of explosion is now reported in the #Obukhivskyi district of #Kyiv region, just south of the capital itself.

Starting in traditional way with a chance for you to check back through yesterday, in case you missed Orban's undiplomatic words about #Ukraine, the latest big blaze in the series #RussiaOnFire or anything else during Friday.
Speaking about Orbán's stupid remarks, he's not alone in the region with #Russia also having culivated useful political idiots in #Croatia#Slovakia + #Czechia
Hopefully an election in 🇨🇿 today will sideline one more (Babiš) as @motytchak explains here:
Welcome to the daily news thread for Day 338 of the #RussianUkrainianWar, with all the important bits, hopefully some stories you won't see elsewhere and a bit of comment too as #Ukraine continues its heroic defence of freedom and democracy.
Read on...
Awful start to yesterday, but a quiet end to the day and still calm this Friday morning so far.
If you need to catch up on Thursday's events, here's the link to the start of yesterday's thread - scroll through at your leisure.
1/2 First let's update you on the territorial situation at the front. You probably know I seldom publish or link to maps; to be frank many are guesswork and often out of date.
The British MoD has validated my previous rebuttal of #Russia's claims of gains in #Zaporizhzhia oblast
Thursday 26 January starts with millions in #Ukraine sheltering in bunkers, as waves of drones have been threatening the country and now #Kyiv is under threat
This is the daily thread with all the news, updated throughout each & every day...
So much news yesterday afternoon and evening.
Firstly the tank-coalition news then the angry reply from #Russia.
To glance through anything you may have missed, just click and scroll Wednesday's thread here:
It continues to be fairly quiet in #Ukraine with no major missile attack for 9 days and even mortar attacks are less frequent in some of the usual hotspots.
In #Sumy for instance 'just' 15 mortars in Novoslobidsk and Shalyhinsk was shelled with artillery just once.
No injuries.
