During his State of the Union Address, President #Biden announced his 4-part Unity Agenda. It includes “Supporting America’s Veterans and Their Families, Caregivers, and Survivors.” whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/…) #veterans#SOTU#SOTU2023
Last year the #Biden Administration expanded benefits for #veterans, #caregivers & survivors. In 2022, @DeptVetAffairs processed an all-time record 1.7 million @VAVetBenefits claims & delivered $128 billion in earned benefits to 6.1 million veterans & survivors. #POTUS
Priorities include reducing #veteran#suicide with the following proposed actions:
•Support states and territories.
•Increase lethal means safety
•Expand outreach to #justice involved veterans.
•Expand Access to #Legal Support Services.
•Expand access to peer support & mental #health services
#Military service increases the risk of #mentalhealth problems & adjustment challenges for #veterans. VA will increase the number of peer specialists working in medical centers by 350 over the next 7 years. #PeerSupport
•Ensuring access to affordable, stable #housing for low-income #veterans @POTUS’ upcoming budget will triple the number of extremely low-income veterans who can access rental assistance over the years ahead.
•Deliver high-quality job training to veterans & spouses
About 200,000 service members transition from #military to civilian life each year. @USDOL’s Veteran Employment & Training Service (DOL-VETS) will implement its #Employment Navigator Partnership Pilot. #jobs#jobtraining
In last year’s State of the Union, President #Biden called for #Congress to pass legislation to address #military toxic exposures. In August 2022, President Biden signed the bipartisan PACT Act into law. #SOTU#veterans#PACTAct
The PACT Act is the most significant expansion of benefits & services for toxic exposed #veterans in more than 30 years. Critical action was taken to help reduce veteran #suicide, including transitioning the Veterans Crisis Line to “988, press 1.” #military#ToxicExposures
Last night Front Steps Housing & Services (formerly Transitional Housing Inc.) held its first Home for All Ball since 2019. Front Steps provides permanent supportive housing & essential services needed to regain their independence. frontstepsservices.org#HousingFirst@FrontCle
Front Steps Housing & Services was founded in 1986 as Transitional Housing Inc. (THI). It was one of the first transitional #housing programs in the country designed to serve #homeless & disabled women. frontstepsservices.org
Four sisters from the Congregation of St. Joseph purchased an old Econo Lodge motel on West 25th Street & renovated it. The building was transformed into a 60-unit residence. Transitional Housing Inc. (THI) opened its doors to residents in January 1986.
The ADAMHS Board of Cuyahoga County is holding a special meeting today at 3:30 p.m. to address the pending closure of the St. Vincent Charity Medical Center Psychiatric Emergency Department. They will vote on a resolution to provide $4,447,412 in funding for calendar year 2023.
The meeting will be held in the Ohio Room at the ADAMHS Board Offices, located on the 6th floor of 2012 West 25th St., Cleveland, OH 44113. Free parking is available in the lot behind the building off of West 25th Street.
The meeting will also be live-streamed. But sometimes there are issues with the audio. A link is available on the Board’s website: adamhscc.org/Home/Component…
Reports show ‘epic failure’ at Cuyahoga County children services office, but officials say hands are tied
According to this August story by Kaitlin Durbin, several staff said the agency is an “epic failure” on all fronts. cleveland.com/news/2022/08/r…
Chris Ronayne said the county government is “not navigable” for residents. “People don't know what it is, where it is & who's doing what over there.” The system has been “gummed up.” He asked “Are we in a tower downtown? Are we in our communities?”
He reiterated the importance of supporting local council members, Community Development Corporations (CDCs), nonprofits & mayors with neighborhood family service centers. Chris Ronayne said they're serving in communities on “main street. They're early watchers.”
Tomorrow @CleCityCouncil will hold a caucus meeting at noon. The agenda does not list discussion items. The meeting will NOT be live-streamed on YouTube or TV 20. I spent the day doing research to find a loophole to explain council’s lack of transparency. I COULD NOT FIND ONE.
I’m going to share what I learned in the hope that #Cleveland City Council President Blaine Griffin will reconsider this practice. I’m asking @Griff4CLE6 to publish a full agenda & livestream the meeting. I believe there’s been an honest misinterpretation of Ohio’s Sunshine Laws.
This is going to take a while. I’m asking everyone following this🧵to please be polite & refrain from swearing because it’s not going to help. I want to state the obvious upfront. I am NOT an attorney & I don’t play one on 📺. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, here we go…
A self-titled group of “patriots” launched an effort to crank call @DeptVetAffairs Veterans Crisis Line & urged supporters to clog the line with calls complaining #veterans arrested for the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riot are being mistreated in custody. taskandpurpose.com/news/veterans-…
On Monday, the group held a live-streamed vigil outside the VA’s National Capital Regional Office in Washington, D.C. A man who identified himself as “Justin Johnson” urged 1776 Restoration Movement supporters to they could help the cause by calling the #veterans crisis line.
“Justin Johnson” said: “So, you dial 988 – they made it easier than ever to call. So, you dial 988 & then you press 1.” He put his phone up to the camera to show people the number to call & said: “So, let them know that there is inhumane treatment going on at the D.C. jail.”
