1/7 At the heart of the end to end encryption debate is this.
2/7 If you take technical steps to make the internet unsafe for terrorists and criminals, you make it unsafe for the rest of us.
3/7 No amount of Silicon Valley tech wizardry can change that.
4/7 So it's a policy issue, for which it's pertinent to consider the converse.
5/7 If you make the internet unsafe for the rest of us, does that make it unsafe for terrorists and criminals?
6/7 Not necessarily, as they will use end to end encryption anyway. That genie has been out of the bottle for 20 years.
7/7 And no amount of legislation will change that.
