looks like the Discourse of today is about transmedicalism, so let's talk about that

what is transmedicalism, you ask? well, to put it simply, it's gatekeeping. and if you follow me you probably already know my views on that
gatekeeping is bad because it stops you from finding yourself. if you're queer or trans, you're dealing with feelings and experiences that simply don't exist in a cisheteronormative worldview, so you need to be allowed to explore things to find out what your deal is
and that means trying on identities and labels and presentations and ways of living, even if they don't seem to make sense at first, because if they end up feeling right for you there's probably a reason
if you're not comfortable with your assigned gender, to the point where you want to be something else, you're trans.

that discomfort can take many forms, but they all have the same name: dysphoria.
when people say "you don't need dysphoria to be trans", they're talking about PHYSICAL dysphoria. feeling like you're in the wrong body, or that you need to change yourself to look like another gender. and it's true. you don't need that.
it's not the only kind of dysphoria, it's just the kind that gets talked about the most. probably because it's the easiest to understand, and because it's the kind that we need to talk about with cis people (doctors) so they'll LET us change our bodies
and changing our bodies is the most visible and the most sensational part of being trans, so it's what cis people focus on when they talk about us

and until recently, most of the people talking publicly about us WERE cis

so it's not surprising that some things got missed
when you take into account the whole picture of what dysphoria is, the idea of being trans without it doesn't even make sense. if you want to change your gender, that is ITSELF an expression of your dysphoria
and to anyone reading this and suddenly realizing things, I want to be very clear:

if you want to be another gender, that means you ARE that gender. you're trans, and you're allowed to take the steps to make it a physical reality. ask me how, my DMs are open
so anyways, transmedicalism is the idea that if you don't have physical dysphoria, you're not really trans. and that is ALL KINDS of harmful

for one thing... why should it be ok to suggest that anyone needs to undergo medical procedures just to be accepted???
but also, dysphoria's tricky. you might find out as you explore your gender that you want things that you never allowed yourself to admit that you want

it happened to me, here's my story
transmedicalists, or as they're often called, "truscum" (I feel bad about that term, some of them are just misguided), want to pretend all the weird edge cases of transness don't exist. they want an easy, concise, one-size-fits-all narrative, easy to explain to the cis
the idea being that dysphoria is a medical condition, easily diagnosed, with a simple course of treatment (transition)

and it makes sense that they'd want to push that narrative, because it ensures easy access to medical care - which, let's be clear, I am a big fan of
but it's not worth it if it requires throwing so many of us under the bus. if they were running things, I, for example, would never have been allowed to transition, and in case you weren't clear on this point, I am EXTREMELY trans
they also like to throw around Blanchardian concepts like "autogynephilia" to invalidate those who don't fit their narrative, and I will never stop yelling about how shitty that dude's ideas are until he's completely discredited
not to mention transmedicalism tends to invalidate nonbinary people. not everyone's gender is completely male or female! and there's often no clear way in which those people can or should medically transition, and that doesn't make them any less trans
at any rate, now is a particularly weird time to be transmed. because it just became less necessary

the recently released ICD-11 removes gender dysphoria from the category of mental disorders and reclassifies it as gender incongruence, a "condition related to sexual health"
which means we can still access medical care for it, but it's not classified as an illness

because there's nothing wrong with us! we're just different! and the psychiatric community is FINALLY realizing this!
some people seem to think this is a weird compromise, but being trans in this world is all about weird compromises tbh

if it means getting the treatment I need without being judged for it, I'll take it.
