On the myth that the EU was shadily sprung upon the UK: 1957 Rome Treaty BEGINS: "Determined to lay the foundations of an ever-closer union"
This was and had always been the European direction of travel, from the start.
The UK begged to be let in, when its own effort EFTA was struggling, and was rejected, because De Gaulle thought it to be too "insular".
When Heath finally succeeded in gaining entry, this is how his celebratory speech began. #Brexit
And this is the position on which the British people then voted. Nothing changed. Nothing was misrepresented. You are not the victims.
De Gaulle was, essentially, spot on. Some in Britain were not on board with the project and aimed to hijack it for commerce. They failed.
That's all there is to this story. Europe never turned into something you "never signed up for. It's always been the UK trying to derail it.
The idea that you are somehow the victims of a conspiracy to deprive you of a fictitious sovereignty is a Eurosceptic invention. THE END
Any questions?
