Last night I left the office & walked to the car. My route takes me through First Street.I walked past a group of elderly folks outside CABS
I walked past the same folks this morning. What sort of bathroom facilities are they using I wonder? How much cash will they eventually get?
Harsh reminder that while my transactions are mostly plastic given the infrastructure around me, others aren't so lucky & still require cash
Whatever is happening at the moment in #Zimbabwe, I hope we remember the elderly folks who worked hard & planned to retire in dignity
How many of us have parents, family friends or relatives who can't actually afford to retire but had made solid plans to do so by now?

Last night, I listened to a tele townhall with my MoC, Rep. Ann Wagner. She has not held an in-person townhall since she took office in 2012. I've participated in several of these in the past two years. Last night's left me particularly disturbed. /1
A caller, let's call her Alice, is a small business owner in St. Charles. She and her husband get their insurance from through the ACA and pay about $1700 a month with $6500 deductible. Alice professes to be healthy but her husband has diabetes. /2
Alice has a 30 y/o daughter-in-law with breast cancer. Alice's son and DIL vote Democrat because "they don't think the Republicans have a plan for healthcare". /3

Last night, a vandal at Moscow's Tretyakov Gallery used a metal pole to smash through the glass and damage Ilya Repin's famous painting of Ivan the Terrible killing his son in a fit of rage

The painting's history is incredible. Alexander III banned public displays for several months when it was first unveiled. It was also damaged in a knife attack in 1913. The gallery's keeper, Georgy Khruslov, threw himself under a train when he found out

That is absolutely and unequivocally false. I cannot say this enough. It’s false, false, false. I’ll bet most of you have heard the aphorism, “Congress controls the purse strings”. That is literally true. So, I’m going to explain how budgets and appropriations work for you.
