One year ago, I broke from the Party I long supported to run with @Evan_McMullin and stand for basic Constitutional principles and athwart corruption, division and extremism.
Along the way, while my principles have remained unchanged, I've come to see the ugly side of the Republican Party that leaders I once admired tolerated and enabled.
Since Trump's election, I've maintained a position hopeful for his success and for that of the GOP with healthy skepticism, and often critique, for both.
Tonight, I have mixed emotions. Heartbreak for the GOP's moral decline, intractable Trump division effects, and loss of @EdWGillespie the man that was.
On the other hand, tonight offers a glimmer of hope for course correction by Democrats, Republicans, and if they fail, the third party that's inevitable if we continue down this path.
Outside of my faith and family, my loyalty belongs to country over party and always will. I love America and will never stop believing in the inherent goodness of the American people.
