It is agreed that you cannot see everything with the mirrors. But a driver always has the option to turn his head!
Based on my personal observation of drivers creating dangerous situations: not turning the head and having a proper look to check road is clear is very common error

Again: that whole "Gitt siichtbar" campaing is rubbish if drivers are not properly trained to look around. Cyclists and pedestrians can (legally) turn up at rather unexpected places.

A 'stiff neck' true story from a couple of weeks ago. I was cycling on official piste cyclable deviation (large sidewalk, legal) at Auchan North parking exit.
Suddenly a driver barred my way. I had premptively braked, but fact is he had not seen me 1st! Stiff neck apologized
