A quick story about tonight, because this was something out of a movie or TV show about journalism...
I had been told last week that Suiter was testifying before a grand jury about the GTTF. It sounded wild but I wasn't ruling it out, and was trying to run it down. We couldnt get confirmation, then it started to spread on social media/streets/etc...
But we were working on it. We had found the case in which a high-speed crash that involved a now-indicted officer ended with a death (I covered it at the time)... Today, I started making a list of cases in which Suiter worked with GTTF members....
Then, around 4:30 p.m., I looked up the case of the suspects charged in the high-speed crash, and saw the two federal prosecutors working the GTTF case had entered their appearances in August and there were sealed filings. This is 30 min before BPD presser
So when the commissioner stunned us all and acknowledged the federal grand jury testimony was true, we had background on the intersection of the cases just about ready to go
Anyway, that's just an example of the things we're looking into & gathering even if we can't post about it. If the commissioner hadnt said what he said, I was ready to lobby for a story simply about the prosecutors entering their appearance, but it obv wouldve been much different
