I have spent the past several days at #kubecon talking to humans
And I have never been at an event (or ancillary party, etc) where ppl were so fucking willing to just shit on the practices of other open source projects and refer to them as jokes as ive seen in the past few days.
Without giving a single fuck, or exhibiting a single thread of empathy, or even wondering if the human they're talking to maybe cares about that project.
I am SO FUCKING TIRED OF IT.
Open source still needs to be so much bigger than "just us."
The mockery I've witnessed this week and the feels from folks I have seen even dwarfs the fucking systemd drama (and trust me, I *know* that drama).
It makes me sad. It makes me want to walk away from all this shit.
When the hell did we all become so fucking holier than thou? How do y'all not see the patterns? When did we become so disrespectful of the possibility of learning from others?
When did open source as a broader community forget about this shit called "communities of practice" and the notion that together, as we all evolve, we could fucking learn and improve as projects together?
It makes me so mad.
And sad. Sad enough to leave a party and stand on a street tweeting into the ether with tears streaming down my face
Because all the ideals I believe in - not because I'm a fucking hippie, but because they really can work -- fail to work in this abyss of mockery and lack of respect and learning.
I will never understand why mocking another project is a good thing.
You don't get It? You think they did shit wrong?
Wtf did you do to help them not go down those routes -- and wtf did you do to learn from It?
Because I can guaran-fucking-tee you that mocking another project ain't gonna solve your own project's problems.
And trust me: if you have a project with more than one human contributing, you're gonna have drama. Because there are humans. God forbid if they work at companies.
