(1) Alright, so instead of being knee deep in empty glasses of bourbon on the rocks, which oh by the way is the only way to drink bourbon and anyone who tries to drink it any other way is a heretic I'm recovering from a slight bourbon hangover from a Christmas party. Thread time!
(2) Tagging in @ThomasWictor to this as I'm going to do a thread on something that's REALLY bothering me about the @MooreSenate allegations, and I haven't seen him cover this angle yet.
(3) Now, I'm a patterns guy. I like things when they're in neat easy to discern patterns. What catches my attention is when things fall OUTSIDE of a pattern, which usually means something is wrong.
(4) So, the patterns I'm focusing on are the spread of sexual harassment allegations against men in power. Accusations leveled against Moore fall outside the pattern in one easy to discern way that no one seems to be talking about.
(5) Let's fire off a couple articles, see who else sees the pattern of the other allegations that I'm talking about. usatoday.com/story/news/pol…
(10) So, now lets compare Roy Moore's allegations. qz.com/1147348/these-…
(11) 'One of these things is not like the others! One of these things is BULLSHIT!' (I regret being unable to find an appropriate sesame street gif for this)
(12) So, what's different about Roy Moore's allegations? They're ALLLLLL from 3-4 decades ago. The LATEST allegation comes from an incident in '91.
(13) ALLLLL of the other allegations? From the past decade or so. People who spent their careers harassing and assaulting women.
(14) People want to do the 'listen and believe' approach to sexual harassment? Cool. All of the other allegations so far are carpet-bombing careers, knocking out powerful men, like in Conyers case some already have litigation and settlements attached to them.
(15) However, there is one sad fact of life: people don't change. They simply don't. Their negative tendencies can be tempered down and suppressed, but its a daily struggle to keep those negative aspects of themselves down.
(16) The ones that do crap, and don't get caught? There's no negative reinforcement to keep them from demonstrating negative behavior.
(17) AS @ThomasWictor said, in research of Moore, these allegations have NEVER surfaced, and they had plenty of opportunities to.
(18) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glassroth… This made national headlines.
(20) Roy Moore was in positions of power all this time, but the latest accusation they can drudge up is a ninja butt pinching from 1991? Where are the current accusers?
(21) Let's even play devil's advocate and assume Roy Moore is a skirt chasing Alabama Johnny Bravo
(22) Then where are the current allegations? Where's the girls from his time in the Alabama Supreme Court, at the zenith of his power and authority?
(23) You think being MARRIED has stopped any of the other harassers from their attacks on women?
(24) You think a head full of grey hair has kept any other alleged harasser from doing his harassing?
(25) This isn't to say that allegations have an expiration date, of course, but unless you want me to believe Roy Moore is the first sexual harasser named in this shitstorm who decided to reform himself and has kept away from teenage girls for the better part of 3 decades?
(26) I'm just going to have to call bullshit on the entire thing. It doesn't fit the pattern, and in the WaPo and others' rush to condemn Roy Moore, they couldn't even be bothered to come up with a series of allegations that fit previous patterns to make them more believable. end
