Take note how Republicans never acknowledge that undocumented workers wouldn’t be “pouring into our nation” if there weren’t ample work for them or ample 1%ers like Trump hiring them to do menial labor for FAR less money than Americans are willing to be paid.
Republican business and home owners are the MAIN ones hiring undocumented immigrants to do their dirty work for them. They want skilled labor for cheap but don’t want to extend citizenship or equal human rights to the people who work for them. They want indentured servitude.
We can’t get practical immigration policy from the GOP because they’re too hateful and ungrateful to adequately compensate the people of color who make their privileged lives easier every fucking day. They’re still mad as hell that they can’t legally own slaves anymore.
They didn’t want chattel slavery to be abolished after the Civil War, and everything they’ve done since has been predicated on forcing non-White people to work for them at the lowest possible price and with the least possible infringement upon White male supremacy.
As a native Texan, I take this anti-Mexican immigrant racist bullshit extremely personally. Our state would literally come to a screeching halt if it weren’t for our neighbors to the South. If anyone should know this it’s the hypocritical White Republicans who keep hiring them.
It’s disgusting to me how they kick their feet up in privilege while simultaneously vilifying the people who are making their lives easier. It’s disingenuous for them to pretend they aren’t taking FULL advantage of our leaky immigration system and profiting from it handsomely.
Also keep in mind that this has everything to do with the White American majority’s refusal to accept/acknowledge the numerous contributions of non-White people to our economy. White supremacy means never admitting they rely on people from “shitholes” for their basic survival.
Republicans will continue to fight tooth and nail against humane, sensible immigration reform because bringing people out of the shadows necessarily means paying them a competitive/living wage and giving them the right to vote. Both eventualities spell disaster for the GOP.
In even plainer terms, today’s GOP is staunchly anti-immigration because at its core White Nationalism is the strongest thing keeping them afloat as a party. They believe this is a White man’s country and aren’t interested in sharing it with people who don’t look/think like them.
Now matter how economically detrimental this mindset is for our nation’s future, the race based culture war is their most efficient means of rallying the Republican base and getting them to vote in the 1%’s favor.
Like moths to a flame.
