Problem in the UK is the (sometimes deliberate) misunderstanding of the term. It's not about freedom to travel, it's about freedom to live and work.
I keep coming across people who think we are going to stop EU citizens coming to the UK when free movement ends. People are wedded to this idea even when it contradicts their own experience. Most countries don't stop people from entering. You just get on a plane and go.
Opposing free movement enables politicians to sound like they are taking an anti-immigration line when really they are not. John Redwood, for example, thinks bringing in "large numbers of people from overseas" is a great idea. 
I suspect that what many Brexiter politicians are opposed to is not immigration itself but immigrants with rights.
There is little evidence of a long-term effect on wages from EU migration but if you're still worried about migrants undercutting wages, ask yourself this.
Who is least likely to ask for a pay rise, least likely to complain when the boss changes working conditions, least likely to rock the boat at work?
Someone who has the right to be here, who can walk out and get another job or even claim unfair dismissal? Or someone whose right to be in the country is dependent on the specific employer and job?
