The armed school resource officer at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School responded to the shooting BUT NEVER WENT IN for “upward or 4 minutes” while the gunmen killed people, said Sheriff Scott Israel.
“Never went in” Sheriff said. Officer “clearly” could hear gunfire

Sheriff: “Devastated.Sick to my stomach. There are no words.These families lost their children. We lost coaches. I’ve been to the funerals. I’ve been to the homes where they sit in shiva. I’ve been to the vigils”
Sheriff Scott Israel said Officer Scott Peterson failed by waiting outside the Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS building for about 4 of 6 minutes while Nikolas Cruz killed 17 people

What should Peterson have done

Israel: “Went in. Addressed the killer. Killed the killer”
I was so floored when a Broward Sheriff’s source told me this that I had to watch the video
As noted above, school resource officer Scott Peterson quit when an investigation was opened up into his conduct. Sheriff Israel said video and witnesses show that Peterson was outside the SE corner of the building and "clearly" could her gunshots.

Could he hear the screams?
This is all preliminary, and there's not much known. Is there some other explanation for an armed officer to NOT go in a building as children are being gunned down for at least 4 minutes that he's on scene?

Could he have saved anyone?

Florida House Speaker @richardcorcoran said he's appalled by what happened and that tomorrow, when lawmakers rollout their gun legislation, it call for a special fact-finding commission --chaired by an as yet-unnamed parent of one of the shooting victims-- with subpoena power

Something very strange happened in Broward County.
I've never seen a top-of-the-ticket U.S. Senate race get fewer votes than EVERY OTHER statewide election.

So more voters wanted to weigh in on governor AND attorney general AND state CFO AND agriculture commissioner?
How can the US Senate race have MORE votes statewide than the three Florida Cabinet races but FEWER votes in Broward?

The likely culprits: either poor ballot design (Sen race was tucked below instructions near the bottom corner of the first of many pages) or tabulation error
Though there are issues in Broward, we can't say it cost Sen Nelson the race

Nelson's trailing by 17,344 votes (.021%) statewide

BUT IF the Brow gov race totals were applied to the Sen race but vote share remained constant, Nelson trails by 7,483 (0.09%)

So this is big

In Broward County, Miramar Elementary School teacher Lakeisha Sorey came across a box labeled “Provisional ballots” left behind at the school from Election Day & she’s concerned it might have votes. She didn’t look in the box because she didn’t want to tamper with it
Sorey: “I wasn’t touching it. I don’t want anybody to say I tampered with anything. But I want to make sure that if there are votes in there that they’re counted”

“It makes me question everything that’s going on—just the fact that I want every1’s vote 2B counted”
Sorey said she spotted the box before leaving school about 4 p.m. She spoke to her principal who advised her not to touch it. She also spoke later to a state rep who referred her to me

If the MAGA bomber is indeed Cesar Sayoc, as law enforcement source are now telling multiple media outlets, he’s a registered Miami-Dade County Republican who registered in 2016 and voted early in both the primary and the general in 2016.
Tweet corrects county of residence. He has a Broward mailing address but is registered in Dade
We’re still learning more about the suspect. There are strong indications that this is his Twitter account, which matches his 1st & last name & often discusses his Native American heritage (he owned a co called Native American Catering & Vending)

Sheriff Bob Gualtieri of Pinellas County, head of Florida's state-appointed commission investigating the Parkland shooting, said today that video from inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School showed the gunman, Nikolas Cruz, had to reload his AR-15 assault rifle several times.
"There were several other times when he was in that school that his gun was empty," the sheriff said, noting that the rifle had a six-round magazine. A reload break allowed a teacher on the third floor of the freshman building to move students away to safety, he said.
"If he had somebody in there with a gun, they could have mitigated this," the sheriff said. "There were opportunities for staff to have intervened if they had been armed."

The Broward Sheriff's Office arrested 2 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students today for bringing knives to school, per BSO. A third was arrested for making threatening posts on Snapchat.
Also, a BSO deputy patrolling the inside of the school was suspended after a student reported that the deputy was asleep on duty. Deputy Moises Carotti has been placed under internal investigation.
And BSO filed for a risk protection order against Zachary Cruz, to prohibit him from possessing or acquiring firearms. This is under the new "red flag" protections created by Florida's new gun law passed after the Parkland shooting.

For some reason, I’m being attacked about the Parkland shooting today. The conspiracy theorists refuse to give up their wild stories. So, here we go. A thread on Parkland. this is going to take a while and embarrass some people.
First of all, the official version. Nikolas Cruz, about whom authorities has more than ample warning, took an Uber to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School wearing the school colors, a maroon t-shirt with Parkland on it. He was carrying a backpack and a long black bag.
Inside the long black bag was an AR-15 that he purchased legally. He walked into the freshman building, where he encountered a student. As he took his rifle out of the bag, he looked at the student and said, You’d better run.” Then, he inserted a magazine and began his rampage.
