He should have left town and gone into hiding. It would have been a better use of scarce Police resources at this time.
For a cushy office job at a school, not the dangerous, unpleasant kind of work his lower-paid colleagues do.
Pay should reward performance & responsibilities, not length of service.
Reportedly he is claiming he did well by calling it in. So guilt & shame won't play on his mind, either.
