I’m in Mississippi right now & talking to blacks folks down here is such an important reminder how the narrative of rural black americans is one that often doesn’t get told because it doesn’t fit neatly into our narrow & ill-defined boxes for what working class america looks like
It’s been said before but the way ppl talk about the working class in “flyover states” seems to conveniently forget that there are black ppl who live in these places too

And they often have a set of political concerns that aren’t necessarily analogous go their white counterparts
Just be mindful, next time you talk about how Trump is “the voice of the rural working class” be very clear that you’re not talking about rural black folks. They’ll be the first ones to tell you that he most certainly is not a voice for them.
(lol just realized in the first tweet I said “blacks folks” which sounds a small family owned bbq joint rather than the intended reference to a demographic of people)
