It's crazy to think how social media has individualized content so much that our newsfeeds (especially on Facebook) or curated to a T
Because of this, we find a lot of micro-communities that would not exist outside the internet
Other examples outside of Facebook can include subreddits, YouTube recommendations, random forums, etc.
With blockchain being hailed as internet 3.0 and all, in the near future, these communities will not only have an operating infrastructure to build on, but a token/currency to hold the community together as well
The consequence of this is that these could bypass traditional financial institutions (depending on how much the crypto the community token is being built on complies with governments, banks, etc.)
But another huge consequence is that it may further accelerate our isolation in our "newsfeeds"
We live in a polarized time, quite ironic due to the fact that the internet was promised to bring us closer together in 90s
Now a lot of promises are being hailed with blockchain technology such as banking the unbanking, empowering creators, etc.
Blockchain isn't going anywhere, the future is now. I think the main question we should be asking ourselves is will blockchain bring us together or spread us further apart?
