Been looking into the dates of the "go home" vans that Theresa May's former advisor said happened when she was "on holiday"

So what was Mrs May up to in July 2013?

Well on 18 July, 4 days before the operation began she released a statement

In that same week she confirmed to the Daily Mail that she wouldn't be attending the Royal birth (yes really)

So to buy the "she was on holiday at the time" excuse we have to believe civil servants implemented a long planned and named operation on Monday 22 July 2013, a day after she had went on holiday, and May didn't notice when she returned the next week.

1. 'Hostile environment' - created when May was Home Secretary. This included 'go home' vans and was the precursor to the 'Windrush scandal'
2. Windrush - not only have people died, not only does her Govt have no idea how many people have been impacted, not only did it create grave distress and fear amongst British citizens who have been here longer than most of us have been alive .. she took no responsibility

A #Windrush thread

Theresa May has met Caribbean leaders to talk about the treatment of the #windrushgeneration. Yesterday Downing Street refused such a meeting. But she’s changed her mind.
The Daily Mail thinks that was because it told her to. It may well be right.
The Mail has clout. It can change things for the better when it puts its mind to it. This could be described as good #journalism.
But good journalism (imho) also requires giving the reader the full story, not just the convenient bits.
Today’s paper includes a ragout from its Saturday essay, headlined “What an outrage!” (You may have missed it or not realised what it was about – that could be the heading on almost any Saturday essay).

1. Two excellent articles by @garyyounge and @alexmassie on the plight of the “Windrush generation” of immigrants. They’ve been caught in a trap not meant for them. They are its collateral damage.
2. The trap is the anti-immigrant ratchet. Immigration is not a problem in the UK, only its perception is, and it’s a perception not related to reality.
