Want to know what it’s like to run a TV writers room? Try DMing a #DnD game! BEGIN SPEW! #TVWriting 1/?
No seriously. Refereeing a #DnD game may be the best training you can get for running a TV writers room. #TVWriting 2/?
NOTE: Doesn’t have to be #DnD. Any paper and pencil RPG will do. #Runequest #Traveler #Champions #Shadowrun… but maybe not #CallOfCthuhlu or #Paranoia. More on that in a bit. #TVWriting 3/?
So the job of a DM is to help create a collaborative story for a group of friends which will ultimately tell a satisfying tale. Sound familiar? #TVWriting 4/?
It’s also the DM’s job (though some DMs aren’t really aware of it) to try to make sure everyone has fun and contributes. #TVWriting 5/?
Remember: The players are not your enemy. You’re not trying to beat them. You’re trying to lead them all in a fun experience. 6/?
Unless you’re DMing a game of #CallOfCthuhlu or #Paranoia. Then it’s your job to terrify them. So… yeah… maybe not those games. 7?
Bottom line though, a good showrunner and a good DM do the same thing. Lead the other writers/players in the (hopefully) fun process of creating a great story. #TVWriting 8/?
