Home Sec told @CommonsHomeAffs today that Home Office now believe 63 of Windrush have been deported - but they haven’t yet been contacted. Nor has HO yet tried to work out how many people have been wrongly detained. I urged them again to do so. We will keep pressing for answers
Home Sec told us he has suspended the “compliant environment” bank checks pending further checks for accuracy & admitted they have no idea how many landlord & employment checks are in error.
Also received letter from HO Perm Sec with new info on targets & bonuses which seems to suggest local enforcement teams were given both removals targets and bonuses based on them from 2015. Have asked for urgent clarification as we were previously assured this wasn’t happening

Another day at @CommonsHomeAffs trying to get to bottom of Home Office plans for No Deal. Here’s what Home Office have now told us No Deal means:
1. Less security at border.
2. Free movement continues.
3. Less immigration enforcement.
Not sure that’s what people voted for.
Police, Border Force & Permanent Secretary have all said they won’t have access to SIS2 European database of suspects & criminals at the border - so less security at border
Immigration Minister has said there will be no additional checks at the border, no additional employment checks & they won’t be able to distinguish between new arrivals & long standing residents - so free movement continues

1. Govt says in the event of No Deal, UK will still respect rights of EU citizens living here now & the same settled status scheme will apply as if there was a deal
2. Govt says in the event of No Deal, there will be no change in the checks on EU citizens at the border, and EU citizens will be able to travel into the UK same as now. People won’t need visas.

This is a drop in the ocean & just spin until we know full numbers deported, detained & those hounded out of their home country by the home office. Apology is crocodile tears & an insult to people still not given hardship fund, left jobless, homeless & unable to afford food.
Home Office covering up scale of the scandal by consistently refusing to answer my questions, including those to the PM back in April. This will all be viewed as just spin until every single person affected gets an apology and compensation.
According to @sajidjavid 6,507 people contacted the #Windrush taskforce, were considered possible #Windrush and referred for a call back to progress their case. 2,272 people have now been given documentation confirming their status.

Two months since @SajidJavid took charge, but this report shows the Home Office still has no answers on Windrush. How many people have been made homeless and jobless? Why still no hardship fund for those left bankrupt? Why still no right of appeal?
We need to dismantle the hostile environment, to stop the criminalisation of innocent people. We need to bin bogus migration targets. And we need an independent review of Home Office practices. @sajidjavid needs to admit it has failed.

Theresa May has met Caribbean leaders to talk about the treatment of the #windrushgeneration. Yesterday Downing Street refused such a meeting. But she’s changed her mind.
The Daily Mail thinks that was because it told her to. It may well be right.
The Mail has clout. It can change things for the better when it puts its mind to it. This could be described as good #journalism.
But good journalism (imho) also requires giving the reader the full story, not just the convenient bits.
Today’s paper includes a ragout from its Saturday essay, headlined “What an outrage!” (You may have missed it or not realised what it was about – that could be the heading on almost any Saturday essay).
