Security Policy Commission of Nat'l Council concludes:
- Stgw 57/90 should not go to EU Cat A (prohib) (18/8 vote)
- State cannot realistically control 10+ rd rifle/20+ rd pistol mags; voted to maintain free purchase of any size (12/11 vote)

- Concluded that after 5 yrs sport shooters should show guns are being used for sport shooting at least 5 times (5 shoots) (no vote #)
- It appears that sport shooting other than SVV 50m/300m should receive appropriate Cat A (prohibited) exemptions for IPSC etc. (no vote #)
- Most parties seem to accept that the EU Weapons Directive cannot realistically combat terrorism but are inclined to transpose the directive into Swiss law so as not to endanger Schengen FoM & Dublin refugee/asylum agreements. (Comment: Loss of your freedoms over that? WTF!)
- Next meeting of Swiss Federal Council to consider these votes & how to implement the EU's directive will be around 30th May 2018.

In the comments: "It makes me wonder and sad how many Commissioners are in bondage to the EU. [...] Instead of standing up for CH and its traditions, standing up for it and waiting for factual reasons, they prefer to bow down and practise obedience ahead of time."
Also: "Switzerland is becoming rotten on the inside, it is being undermined, but with much opposition it takes longer for resistance to the EU to collapse. Their downfall is less dramatic than in other countries. The famous shield of neutrality still makes a certain impression."
Also: "Problem is that Schengen doesn't work as it should. We've adopted a deportation initiative. Nevertheless, there is hardly any deportation. [...] The Weapons Act only affects people who obey the law. Terrorists never obey the law. They're buying their guns illegally."
Also: "[...] There is a lack of courage simply to reject and not implement the proposal, referring to our traditions and customs, to the promise of 2004 [to not take up such policies] and, even more so, to the special relationship between state and citizens in our country."
Pretty fiery stuff in the comments.
It seems that in Switzerland, as elsewhere in the world, such stories generate an "The establishment versus the Comments Section" picture of political discourse.
