22 May 2014. It was the day that Royal Thai Forces seize power and overthrew the elected prime minister by committing a coup d'etat. Their reasons for this coup are to protect peace, order ,nation, religion, and monarchy. And to fight against the corruptions.
Before the coup, there was a political crisis from 31 October 2013 to 22 May 2014. The reason of that crisis is came from Amnesty bill that pardoning wrongdoings of all sides from 2004. The People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) led by Suthep Thaugsuban was head of protest
The bill was criticised from almost everyone because it pardoned all political crimes from 2004 including 2010 military crack down. After the bill was cancelled, most people have cease the protest except PDRC and The United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD)
After the bill, PDRC has its new goals which are Removal of Thaksin-affiliated Pheu Thai Party and Creation of an unelected People's Council to oversee political reforms. While UDD was against them. PDRC focus attack on the current Premier of that time "Yingluck Shinawatra".
Yingluck Shinawatra was prime minister and head of Pheu Thai Party. She is a sister of ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra who fled Thailand after 2006 coup d'etat. PDRC uses this information the create the fear of Thaksin's influence over Thai political.
Many violences occurs during the crisis. Until one day, Yingluck dissolved the House of Representatives, calling a snap general election for 2 February 2014. BUT it doesn't end the crisis. PDRC believes that the election will be unfair due Thaksin's influence.
So, PDRC and its ally - (Thai) Democrat Party with Abhisit Vejjajiva as a head of party boycott an election. More over, PDRC seized most of poll stations in Bangkok and Southern part of Thailand which prolonged the crisis, also as the violences.
In 22 May 2014, Royal Thai Army led by General Prayuth Chan O-cha finally overthrew Yingluck and seize the power. All have stopped due to the martial laws. PDRC claimed its victory over the coup and disband the group.
The reasons for this coup was to protect peace, order ,nation, religion, and monarchy. And to fight against the corruptions. The special infamous law named "Article 44" was established and use until today and likely even further.
All activities against the government became illegal. The law which protect nation's security and monarchy is widely use. During the first year of junta, the government promise that they will hold new election as soon as possible, but until now they have postpone it 4 times.
Many infamous TV propaganda programmes was established and force to air every channels and everyday at 18:00 hrs. except on Friday which is air on 20:30 hrs.
After 4 years of Junta, everything in Thailand becomes worse than during the crisis such as Economy, Human Rights, Corruptions, etc. Only thing that government can maintain is Peace and Order.
Yesterday (22 May 2018), the pro-democracy movements were doing the rally protest against the possible postpone of the next election and there were many polices who was trying to arrest the protest and blocking more people to join the protest.
