My current residence is only half an hrs drive from the #Kalady, the holy birth place of Jagadguru Adi Shankara.🙏🙇‍♀️ Let's know a bit more about the #Sringeri Mutt...+ Image
The Sringeri Mutt Complex includes two temples built as a shrine to Adi Shankara. The first of these is the Shankara Temple, dedicated to Adi Shankara himself, celebrating the stories around his life and his teachings.+
The second, known as the Sringeri, is dedicated to the Goddess Sharada, the patron saint of the Sringeri Mutt. This shrine, located on the banks of the Periyar is an integral part of the culture around Adi Shankara’s life, which is celebrated in so many ways at Kalady.+

Legend has this linga, along with those of the other 3 Amnaya Peethams aswell, was handed over by #Shankaracharya to his 4 disciples, he himself received the 4 lingas from Shiva. Since then, the Lingas have been propitiated by the various Acharyas who have adorned the Peethams.

When Madhavrao Peshwa reached Srirangapatnam in 1767, clause 7 inserted into the treaty laid down how Hyder Ali would treat the Sringeri math & the swami.

The intention was for Hyder to stop harassment of #Sringeri & the swami.

Excerpt from an original letter to Nana Phadnis
..Two more clauses are significant. One restores a village given to Gokarn Mahabaleshwar in 1765 in the Anantpur treaty by Raghoba, for its maintenance and expenses – which had been taken away by Hyder Ali 2/3

The clauses are a declaration of Maratha policy and reveal Hyder's actions.. & the need to put down his excesses in Karnataka
