... or subpoenas / other coercion to 15 of 21 well-vetted public actors. Let's see how well that threat model holds up.
"Europol along with the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security arrested 17 people in as many countries and seized hundreds of Dark Web domains associated with well over a dozen black market websites."

Substitute "black market website" here with "EOS node" (which might as well be the same thing, or else you'd just use Visa or PayPal or something) to get an idea of how risky it is to bake in centralization and subpoena vulnerability at the protocol level.
Bitcoin, or perhaps more aptly, Ethereum, on the other hand, has over a dozen pools comprised of thousands of mostly unidentified miners distributed around the world. If pools are attacked, miners go somewhere else. Worse case scenario, everyone uses p2pool. The network survives.
If for some reason you want cryptocurrency + throughput so high it results in a network with 21 uber-expensive nodes, just create a fast big block sidechain. No need to scam investors for billions of dollars and create yet another coin that's destined to fail.
Looks like Ethereum devs are starting to take this route with @loomnetwork's high-throughput "ZombieChain" sidechain: coindesk.com/zombiechain-co… (it might need a new name though 💀)
