The words 'equality', 'diversity' and 'fairness' have been corrupted over the years to mean the near opposite of what I understand by them...
To me, 'equality' and 'fairness' mean treating people equally and fairly (as much as is possible) without prejudice or bias - be it positive or negative.
Currently, a lot of people and organisations are ACTIVELY DISCRIMINATING for and against individuals (based on their race, gender and sexuality) - even worse, it is being done under the banner of 'equality', 'diversity' and 'fairness' 🤔
I think that this is appalling. Applying different rules and sets of standards to people based on these traits is the very definition of racial/gender/sexuality discrimination. IT IS NOT PROGRESS!
I don't think it's right, just, or fair to attempt to address a 'diversity imbalance' by discriminating against people who fall into certain categories. How the hell is that fair???
And what does 'diversity' even mean now? Having 100 people with different levels of melanin and assorted gender identities isn't diversity if these people all think the same way...
Ugh, this is painful. I see this crap everywhere. People promote and push it as if it's a good thing but it's reckless and not a move forward. It's garbage.
This is why I can't personally support affirmative action, progressive income taxation, or any minority or gender quota schemes. They're just morally wrong to me. Applying different rules to different groups of people.
People can say it's 'compassionate' or 'progressive' or whatever buzzword but it's BS. I've never seen a decent explanation for these things. People just hear the nice sounding buzzwords and assume they should go along with it.
I understand you're never going to get a 100% perfect level playing field or meritocracy in any field...
But this isn't the way to resolve the 'problem'. If it is a problem? Why is half of this stuff even a problem though? 🤔
Why on EARTH would you expect the participants in any field, industry, career, or college course to perfectly align with the overall demographics? That's so dumb. It doesn't work like that.
Why would it be surprising that the majority of engineers, construction workers and heavy metal rock bands are male? Why would it be surprising that the majority of primary school teachers and nurses are female? Moreover, WHO CARES?
This stuff drives me up the wall man... are people this stupid? I could explain this stuff to a 5 year old. But people don't get it. 😂
Not every disparity is the result of discrimination or exclusion. People make different choices based on a million factors. Give people a fair shot and let the chips fall where they may. Stop trying to engineer results.
Anyway. This thread is long enough. I just had to get that off my chest. 😬 Well, done if you made it this far.
