Gotta get something off my chest: In the first #StarWars film, Obi-Wan Kenobi dressed to blend in on Tatooine so that nobody would suspect he was a Jedi. 1/
Basing all Jedi fashion on that one everyday-Tatooine costume is absolutely fucking ridiculous.
On top of just being pointless, it means that Obi-Wan spent his 20 years hiding out on Tatooine dressed like a fucking Jedi.
I HATE THIS SO MUCH!!!!

Anyway, I hope you guys are all having a nice Tuesday.

I have a theory on this.

Luke Skywalker was never meant to be the Chosen One.

Obi-Wan Kenobi split the kids up for a reason. Leia goes with Bail Organa. She gets a name change. A title. Offspring of a powerful Force user, likely herself to become a powerful force user, and royalty.
That sounds pretty much like the resume of somebody you'd want to have handy if you hoped someday to usurp Palpatine and put somebody else on the Imperial Throne.

Okay, new thread: We're going into A New Hope, which I haven't seen in so long that I will hilariously remember almost none of it. It's a DVD/blu-ray set I picked up on a whim for like $30, because you can't NOT afford the OT at that point. #sithmas
This movie is one year older than me, so to me it's just STAR WARS. I resisted "A New Hope" for a long time because iT'S STAR WARS DAMMIT. I assume this is the revised New Coke edition. Nice bright/crisp picture so far. #sithmas
Here is something else I wanted to see: going from the cinematography and visual effects of 2006 and 2016 to, uh, 1977. Maybe it's easier to go from "gritty" Rogue One than it is from shiny Revenge of the Sith. #sithmas

I'm thinking back over Attack of the Clones, and the impression I get now is that Anakin is extremely whiny and childlike... on purpose. I find it more sympathetic if it's intentional, tbh. #sithmas
I went into it thinking, "this is a terrible love story," but maybe it functions--intentionally or not--more as the story of someone so insecure and emotionally stunted that he's an easy mark for corruption. #sithmas

Oh, my friends. 99% of the time, I can smile politely when strangers want to chat about Star Wars. I do not engage. I do not let on my deep roots or my current involvement. But tonight, when a cashier tried to geeksplain me, I LET THE NEXU CAT CLAWS OUT.
I was buying a BB-8 lanyard-- for the Disney cruise I'll be on as a guest speaker for Star Wars Day at Sea next week-- and the cashier said, "This is not the droid you're looking for." And I said, "I assure you that it is." And he said, "Well, do you know what that's from?"
So I said, "A New Hope."
And he said, "No. Star Wars."

Before I shut down for the holidays, a few thoughts on #StarWars #TheLastJedi.. Where to begin? Well, to start, it’s the first blockbuster I can remember that demands you scan all edges of the frame. A wide screen has rarely been used this dynamically.
Not to get all David Bordwell on you guys but most blockbusters still do center their action in the middle of the frame regardless of the widescreen format, so what Rian Johnson does is incredible - worthy of Kurosawa, Tati, Preminger, film's masters of widescreen aesthetics.
Then you have the story, a brilliant deconstruction of mythic tropes many #StarWars fans have taken for granted. Johnson’s film says, quite explicitly, that maybe the Jedi weren’t that great, that we can build people and groups up into legends - and maybe legends are overrated.
