For those saying “rebellion against the government is not Christlike,” would you say the same to believers in places where Christianity is outlawed? They live rebellion daily to follow Jesus.
If the law opposes Jesus the law cannot be followed. That is not the same as causing chaos or anarchy. It is not the same as being a poor citizen. It means we follow Christ in spite of some laws and in conjunction with most.
So if the law, either explicitly or by enforcement, dictates that children be torn from parents we cannot abide by that as Christ followers. Just as we cannot abide by the law that says the killing of unborn infants is acceptable. Neither law is pro-life or pro-Christ.
Justice is not defined by the law, it is defined by God’s word (and not some hackneyed interpretation of Romans 13 either). If the law supports injustice then it cannot be followed. To disobey it is to stand up for a better society, to stand up for right, not to threaten society.
As to that awful misuse of Romans 13, remember this: by encouraging Roman believers to keep following Jesus, that neither life nor death could separate them from God’s love, and to keep being a church Paul was telling them to risk their lives by BREAKING ROMAN LAW.
