Wow, there are morons trying to start a "DNDgate" thing. With complaints about "attempted SJW entryism of non-gamers into positions of influence over the hobby". What year is this? How long have I been in this industry...working alongside women, POC, trans...? Oh yeah 30+ years.
I've been a pro in this field longer than some of these whining fanboy manbabies have been alive, and they're complaining about the people taking "positions of influence" trying to do things like increase the diversity of representation in games like it's something new.
I mean, JFC, I remember as a freelance writer & editor for TSR on D&D 2nd Edition in the late 80s/early 90s, having WRITTEN GUIDANCE from the company about being thoughtful about increasing representation of women/minorities in the art direction for D&D books.
OH my god, can you believe that SJWs are now suddenly in positions of influence in the RPG hobby? Just look at this language about the depication of handicaps, races, nationalities, and religions incorporated in an RPG PUBLISHER'S CONTRACT!
NOTE FOR THE SARCASM IMPAIRED: That's a photo from a contract I grabbed from my filing cabinet, for the writing of HWR1 Sons of Azca. I signed that contract with TSR on August 29, 1990. Almost 28 years ago. If I look I can find the same language in contracts from years before.
Also note the language "since our marketplace includes minorities" -- like, even 30 years ago, we knew that not all D&D customers were white guys! And we recognized that greater business success requires a game milieu that is more welcoming to more customers!
In the decades since, the growing visibility of different groups within gaming -- whether disabled folks educating us on how to improve the accessibility of games, or trans/nonbinary/etc. folks stepping out and letting us know (if we didn't already) that they've been here...
...at our tables all along, has led us as creators and business people to be more mindful and conscientious about finding ways to welcome everyone and keep them at the table.
