What all these civility idiots fail to understand is that the Trumpwits' boorishness is an *increased* demand for propriety... as defined by the bigot--i.e. deference to their prejudice cast as morality. For the bigots, imposing that propriety trumps any mere speech etiquette...
They didn't abandon all propriety & cease to be civil as part of that. Their self-righteous zeal was fomented. Outrage was stoked at the perceived impropriety of anyone inadequately deferent to bigotry. The bar is being raised *ever higher* in terms of the deference required.
Every centrist argument for civility is part of that raising of the bar. Every one of these fuckwits writing their editorials & finkpieces is helping to set a stricter & stricter standard for the adequate deference that constitutes "civility", disallowing more & more as impolite.
The peaceful protest of taking a knee at the national anthem has been cast as outrageously improper. Politely asking someone to leave your restaurant because your staff are uncomfortable serving them has been cast as outrageously improper.
Any heated response that even *begins* to approach the level of bile spat out by the Trumpists in their malicious sanctimony of pious hate is now being scolded by the useful idiots of the press as "incivility". The demand for deference is getting ever more kneejerk & inflexible.
These useful idiots need to wake the fuck up and recognise that what we're seeing is not some collapse of civility. Rather their tutting and tsking is just adding to an ever more exacting & unreasonable demand for deference to propriety as defined by the bigots.
You cannot break bread with the fascist when he's trying to stab you with that long knife. You cannot persuade him not to stab you. And anyone demanding you treat that fascist with "civility" at the dinner table is demanding deference, not civility, a deference that'll kill you.
