I'm not feeling today's story on Mueller accelerating his probe to finish near the election. The timing and logistics don't add up, particularly the idea he'll turn his focus to coordination only after he finishes obstruction at the summer's end—yet somehow still be done by fall.
2/ Mueller's obstruction probe is infinitely smaller and less complex than the coordination probe. An anonymous source claiming the obstruction probe will take well over 15 months but that the coordination probe will take just a few weeks sounds like a BS Team Trump source to me.
3/ Plus, the idea that Mueller would end his probe on coordination before the midterms is a longtime Team Trump fantasy. From a responsible investigative standpoint, and given the length of the obstruction probe, you'd expect the coordination probe to take at least another year.
4/ It's fine to speculate on how long we might expect an investigation like this to take—and I've indulged in that sort of speculation from time to time. But every story over the past year claiming to *know* via inside sources when Mueller will be done has been egregiously wrong.
