1/ Thread and statement re this story. In January 2017, following a decision made by the US, Trudeau tweeted #welcometocanada. This incented tens of thousands of people to illegally cross our border. Many claimed asylum in Canada, even though most won’t have valid asylum claims.
2/ Politicians like Trudeau who use unplanned and disorderly immigration for political gain, including issuing proclamations of sanctuary cities, with no plan to pay for the inevitable costs associated with doing so, are reckless.
3/ They are reckless both to the Canadian taxpayer and with the lives and hopes that the illegal border crossers have.
4/ For a year and a half, Conservatives have been providing tangible solutions to bring Canada’s immigration system back to compassion and order. These politicians have at best ignored this, or at worst, incited divisive rhetoric in response.
5/ It is up to these politicians to stop playing games with peoples lives, and writing blank cheques for band aid solutions that only are making the problem worse. More money and bussing border crossers across the country with no long term plan is not an appropriate response.
