0/ Thread: I just published "Humble founders will rule the world" 🕊 salon.thefamily.co/humble-founder…
1/ As I've written before, every organisation dedicated to supporting startups emphasises the importance of people / founders in their mission statement. Here is a snapshot of what they tend to look for 🔎
2/ What surprises me is that not many investors look for humility as a core founder quality  -  at least not formally. This can be for many reasons, including the fact that humility is difficult to assess at an early stage, when founders do not have many reasons to show off
3/ But I believe humility - or humble confidence - should make every investor's top 3, as I think the best of the startup world will be led by humble founders. Humble confidence is that ability some people have to use their powers to bring others up rather than pushing them down
4/ I've spotted a few trends indicating that in 2018 we’re moving in this direction more than ever: First, transparency is growing amongst entrepreneurs. A movement of humanisation around the founder role is taking place: from content about mental health…
5/ ... to the most sincere and inspirational posts about failure...
6/ ... to people opening up about alcoholism...
7/ … to honest lessons by more experienced entrepreneurs, not aimed at portraying themselves as demigods, but instead at helping younger founders deal with adversities as normal human beings…
8/ ... to statements encouraging candour & humility...
9/ Second, the number of humble role models is rising. I did some digging & was happy to see there's a great deal of founders who achieved a lot and deliberately live under the radar to focus on building stuff, improving the 🌍 & helping others. Examples in @_TheFamily's network:
10/ ...and the above are just examples: the list goes on & on, as reinforced by responses to my tweet 🔥 (thank you for contributing @neilswmurray @abadesi @IanSanders @maralkalajian @itspaolobollag @Samajra @GuillaumeTassel @Bouazizalex @mygreg @ArrBugzy)
11.a/ So, if I was an investor trying to spot these talents early, I'd look out for people who:

🥇 Say great things about their colleagues when they could say them about themselves
👼🏻 Acknowledge what they don't know, and put their pride aside when you question them...
11.b/ ... and for people who:

💪🏻 Learn from their mistakes rather than hiding them
🏋🏻 Know what they are lousy at
😇 Treat everyone well, from Uber drivers to team members to waiters to celebrities to personal assistants
🐨 Get shy / awkward when you congratulate them /end
