Interesting. White Paper maybe more firmly goods single market than some leaks suggested, if it is explicit that the arrangement would preclude a US trade agreement. Of course this is a big rejection of the Legatum / IEA / Singham line
If this text is correct we commit to implementing every EU rule on goods with even less say / influence than EEA - and by treaty. It is to say the least an interesting choice of words, and still probably not acceptable to the EU without judicial oversight
On a potential US FTA this little noticed FT story from last month was already an indicator of the direction of travel. I hear DIT were overruled on this issue with BEIS particularly wanting to stay close to the EU ft.com/content/94ef2b…
We're relying on speculation but I suspect this is still too much fudge for the EU - UK would have to make a firm commitment to at least Single Market goods and / or a Customs Union not continue to play around with half in / half out nonsense,
