Forests in Siberia are burning at extraordinary rates, unheard of in at least 10,000 years. Current wildfires, which started in late June, have already burned roughly 538 square kilometres (133,000 acres) of forest in southern Siberia. sciencealert.com/nasa-images-ca… /1
The Siberian fires are releasing so much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere in a map of Asia they appear to rival the heart of industrial China. And clearly exceed the CO emissions of India and Europe. /2

These three images screenshots from Windy.tv ( on.windy.com/1i50g ) of carbon dioxide density maps compare the three standout areas of carbon dioxide density (Siberia, West Africa and China). The images are all at the same scale. /4
These four compare the EU, US Eastern Seaboard, South Asia and Oceania (NZ appears to have as low levels of carbon dioxide as it is possible to have.
CORRECTION.. these are all Carbon Monoxide concentrations. When things burn they create lots of Carbon Dioxide and much smaller amounts of Carbon Monoxide. So the measurements are a proxy for carbon Dioxide emissions, but 1 ppm = 1000 ppbv in these images. /6
REMINDER At June 2018: there wwas 410.79 ppm CO2 in the atmosphere. The rate of growth in the level of CO2 is accelerating. Current levels are now 60 ppm ( 17% ) higher than the level many thought was the safe maximum, 350 ppm. /7
