"Transgender" means to believe your body is incongruent with how you feel. Like anorexia. So when are people going to demand we all validate anorexics by referring to them as fat? Not going along with someone's delusion ≠ denying their existence nor is it bigotry.
Of course no one is going to demand we validate anorexics: they're almost all female and most are girls. Nobody cares about the existence of girls or how unhappy they are with their bodies.
And the suicide and death stats for this group, unlike the blown-up stats for "transgender" people, are real. In fact, the mortality for anorexia nervosa is the highest of any psychiatric disorder.
Yet here we are, with hordes of people cheering people - including children - on to change their bodies irreversibly through hormones and surgery instead of reminding them their bodies are normal, beautiful and worthy.
With increasing numbers of lesbian girls as well as straight girls who in some cases "transition" in groups we need to ask ourselves why. Why are girls so eager to escape from their female bodies and how do we, as a society, respond to that?
We applaud girls who deny their female bodies altogether and declare themselves boys - effectively turning "straight"the lesbian girls among them. We let girls with anorexia die. Why do we care so little about girls?
