Be extra cautious when reading political fundraising headlines. Politicians and media outlets use them to sell you a story. Context is everything and they rarely provide it.

Tonight, I'm seeing headlines about Trump's fundraising. Quick thread/
The following 3 headlines are reporting from the SAME financial disclosure reports that just got released.
NYTimes headline:

$88 Million and Counting: Trump Amasses Huge Head Start for 2020 Campaign
nytimes.com/2018/07/15/us/…
Politico headline:

Trump has stockpiled cash for his reelection: The president’s campaign has $33 million in the bank so far.
politico.com/story/2018/07/…
USA Today headline:

Trump started the summer with nearly $54 million for his re-election and his party
usatoday.com/story/news/201…
So, based on those headlines, what do you think is going on?
You have to dig through the articles to find out that one is reporting on everything he's raised since becoming president. Another one is reporting how much he's raised this year. And one is talking about cash on hand.
What these headlines do is signal that Trump has a lot of support. But from whom? And how is that money being spent? Is it just his campaign or affiliated committees?
My point is that reading a fundraising headline is NEVER enough context for what is going on. And it can signal what story the media outlet wants to sell to you. /END
