1 - Speech recognition technology often gets labeled as == "conversational". That's incorrect and misleading. Being able to identify the parts of the human anatomy is necessary to be a doctor, but doesn't enable understanding of how bodies work and don't.
2 - Recognition identifies words and phrases. It does not understand the context and define the meaning that the words and phrases represent. It can't. This is why vocabulary and comprehension are both taught in schools.

How to know if a charter school is designed to fuck everyone:
-An LLC (no public accounting)
-Founded because the public schools around BYU were too liberal
-Intended to extract public money as a way to bleed the beast

Simple diagnostic: evil.
For students & teachers.
I’m not naming the organization, nor the relationships. I’m obscuring a LOT.

The people concerned have multiple entanglements with a specific, large charter system whose best claim to fame is paying their staff incredibly badly, and whose second claim is promoting Bircher ideas.
For some reason, the people concerned decided this was a good educational & professional environment.

In some ways, it was. It was better than the district so poor & corrupt they made international news.

But... it’s also the difference between bacterial and viral pneumonia.

I run a small manufacturing company dealing predominantly with UK customers. Most of our components are imported, either directly by us or by stockholders in the UK.
Following the referendum our cost prices have gone up significantly due to the fall in the £ and it is hard to put that through to the market unfortunately, so we've lost margin as a result.
We started to export recently, first to the EU and more recently to the US. Our products are bulky and delivery costs and transit damages are a real challenge. But exporting to the EU is ever so easy apart from that.

It was dark, but the sensors had no problem:

The software had some maybe unsurprising classification problems and couldn't decide on a maneuver:

Decentralization, and the trustless exchange of value between peers, are the future of (a part of) the web. the Blockchain is the technology that for the first time enables the trustless, transparent, distributed, p2p, uncensorable communications that will create that future
Today those special properties of the Blockchain are only visible at the protocol level, the softwares creating the blockchain itself, but they don't bubble up to the front-end that users see and interacts with.
Distributed applications (Dapp) today still look much like web apps

Things that surprised/amazed me about Japan, an ongoing thread.

(More likely UI than food, but you know this already.)

It’s my first time here. Please comment away and/or point out my cultural insensitivities!
1. A very friendly immigration officer and I laughed together, and when I said “I don’t really know where I’ll be staying,” he actually applauded it.
2. Very nice and clean train from the airport, with power sockets, and vending machines onboard.

Tons of solar panels passed by on the way.
