1/6 A few random and personal reflections on last night in the House of Commons...

2/6 As the ERG amendments went through, passed by 3 votes, against the interests of the people of the UK, I found myself getting steadily more and more irate.

3/6 Where were @timfarron and @vincecable? Why was @UKLabour not more vocal? Why was @sarahwollaston saying she would not vote for early recess - but not precisely saying she would vote against?

@timfarron @vincecable @UKLabour @sarahwollaston 4/6 And this is what is happening, for me at least. These three politicians I mention are reasonable people, I'd hope. But I found myself wanting to pin them down, to give them no room for manoeuvre.

@timfarron @vincecable @UKLabour @sarahwollaston 5/6 Why? Because (for me at least) trust in the wisdom, the reliability and the common sense of our politicians - all of them, relatively sane ones included - is at an all-time low.

They appear, generally, not to be able to act in the best interests of the country any more.

@timfarron @vincecable @UKLabour @sarahwollaston 6/6 And this at a time of real danger to the economy and the well-being of the UK, and of Europe.

So far has democracy fallen: our political institutions are completely failing us. And (speaking for myself) one feels powerless [FPTP; FTPA] to do a single thing about it.
