Here's a thing that happens on Twitter (this thread inspired by something going on in my mentions right now): someone decides that they're going to "debate" the rights/humanity of a marginalized group. They're going to do this "debating" AT a member of said group.
This puts the "debater" (we'll call them Person A) at an advantage because they have the capacity (read: lack of empathy and morality) to remain dispassionate when "debating" whether or not someone not like them deserves to exist.
When the marginalized person (Person B) cannot coldly distance themselves from their own basic right to exist (because they are able to recognize both of those things in a way Person A profoundly denies), Person A sees this as a victory.
If Person B reacts with any emotion at all or if they attempt to disengage, Person A sees themselves as gaining power and prestige. It's never about their "ideas" and they never truly wanted to engage in a thoughtful way. It's always about causing harm. It's about "winning."
They know when they set out that they're intentionally going to hurt someone to make themselves feel important. They know that they have the privilege to do so because their disgusting talking points will never have any real effect on them.
A lot of people will minimize this behavior as "trolling" and suggest that ignoring Person A is the answer. These people? Have the same view as Person A. It's all a game, it's all about winning. "Don't feed the trolls" = "You don't want to LOSE, do you?"
For some of us, we don't have the luxury of trying to "win". If we engage in the "game" on Person A's terms, we lose. If we refuse to engage, we lose. There isn't a way for Person B to ever win.
This was literally half of a thread. The rest of my tweets are gone. This is why I hate the plus-sign button and should have learned my lesson by now about using it.
Anyway, none of what I said in this thread is anything new that hasn't been said before. The rest of the thread suggested tracking down Nazis and burning them alive in their houses. That was the part that really shined, IMO.
To sum up my missing tweets, police the behavior of Person A, not Person B, and also I consider myself actively at war with some of my fellow American citizens and advocate acts of violence and property damage at this time. You know. Basic Jenny Twitter.
