So this happened today. A guy came rang the bell. Asked who it was and he said courier. He gave me this packet and said cash on delivery. It was in my husband’s name. @BlrCityPolice
Neither did the packet have any from address nor any barcode city stamping. Asked him which courier and he said blue dart. Asked him for the acknowledgment sheet and he said he did not have any. He asked for the packet back, asked me to collect it from the office @BlrCityPolice
At this point my son walked into the home and I asked him to go ask his father (who was working from home today) if he had ordered any? The guy realised I wasn’t alone and asked the packet back. I asked for his ID card and told him I wanted to see his vehicle. @BlrCityPolice
The guy quickly walked outside as if he was going to get something, started the vehicle and sped away before I could see the number. He did not park it in front of the gate like any other courier would do. He parked it away so that I cannot see the vehicle number @BlrCityPolice
The episode shocked me. We don’t buy with COD’s. I am usually very careful when I open the door. I knew it was a con in a few minutes. The moment I asked for ID the guy understood it was not going to work and ran away. But to copy the address and bring a packet, scary.
This is a new type of scam. Beware of such people and packets. If there aren’t any from address and stamps or stickers on the packets swiftly shut the door and get inside. It was a lesson for me.
It is so easy to think at that point in time that someone in the house could’ve ordered something. I think that is what they take advantage of. If I had not asked for his ID and the acknowledgment sheet he would have convinced me to pay the money.
What was in the packet? Opened it now and found a shirt.
