Around 74 years ago to the minute, Colonel Claus, Graf von Stauffenberg had made his way to a conference room in the Wolf's Lair, Hitler's Prussian HQ. He'd brought a bomb in, resembling the picture below. He went to the toilet, and snapped a glass vial, starting the fuse... 
Stauffenberg (grievously wounded in North Africa) was part of a conspiracy of generals, leading German businessmen and other public figures who thought that Hitler was leading Germany to ruin and destruction. Together they had conspired to kill him during a planning session...
Right about... now, back in 1944, Stauffenberg left his briefcase under the table of the general's planning meeting, and got in his car. The plan was to fly to Berlin to assist in the formation of a government that would negotiate surrender with the Allies...
Unbeknownst to Stauffenberg, once he'd left the planning meeting, another attendee, Heinz Brandt moved the briefcase containing the bomb slightly further away from where Hitler was standing...
At this moment, in 1944, the bomb in Hitler's planning meeting at the Wolf's Lair exploded. Four were killed either at the time, or shortly afterwards. Unfortunately, Hitler was not among them, and very quickly, a state of emergency was called...
