Prominent personalities in world football that are hated, resented and detested have solid reasons behind them

THREAD
Mourinho is disliked because of his cheap methods, behavior towards his colleagues and the treatment of players under him. Ronaldo is disliked because of his narcissistic comments bordering on arrogance.
Ramos is disliked because of his feats on the pitch. Which brings me to the question. Why is Lionel Messi, one of the most humble, soft-spoken and diplomatic personalities hated in such gigantic proportions?
The man refrains from speaking ill of anybody, does not indulge in naive self-obsessive comments and neither does he express any strong opinions on any topic under the sun.
In a generation where everybody is engaged in a cutthroat race for the spotlight, this man quietly stands in a corner, away from the commotion and lets his work scream greatness rather than claiming it himself.
Why then, do we see random dimwits hating on him in numbers? Drop in at any comment section of a football page, you'd find lengthy copied comments citing reasons as to why he is not the GOAT, when he, unlike some, is not even bothered with it and has never claimed the throne.
Why are his failures dragged repeatedly to tarnish his glittering career till date? Why are certain sections of the population eagerly sitting, flocking TVs or in air-conditioned studios, waiting for one single opportunity to somehow taint his legacy, he has worked so hard for?
Because greatness cannot be but questioned
These people have adjusted their eyes to mere mediocrity over the years. So when they see genius assembled into a 5'7 frame, walk in and redefine how the game is played, they just cannot seem to come to terms with it.
First comes admiration.

Don't be mistaken, even these people inwardly acknowledge his genius. But once that phase passes, then comes a gush of incredulity.
They enter into denial. Because their past dose of mediocrity drags them back each time they tend to surrender to greatness. They look for flaws and errors while they go through 14 years of his life in the span of hours, just to hold him accountable for the smallest of things.
Lionel Messi has had to endure this throughout his career. His tax issues, conversations with teammates, his failures with his NT side, his short frame, all were used to demean him, degrade his reputation and pull his status down.
Unlike all others, Lionel Messi is hated because he is too good.
