1/ OMG Brexit is so exciting.
2/ At first we were told we would maintain frictionless trade with the EU
3/ Then we were told it would be as frictionless as possible.
4/ Then there was the Chequers proposal which has been unsurprisingly rejected
5/ Meanwhile there is no real infrastructure work being done at Dover to prepare for anything less than staying in the single market and a customs union
6/ The only proposals we have for the increased friction are these 3....
7/ Turn a large stretch of the M20 into a lorry park
8/ Or turn the M26 into a lorry park
9/ Or turn Manston Airfield into a lorry park
10/ Let me help Government. It does not matter where you put your emergency lorry park.

Wherever it goes is a failure of planning and negotiating.
11/ Here is a better emergency plan

@NickBoles with all due respect this is what GOV should have worked up before triggering article 50 and asked Parliament to support as a pragmatic compromise.

But no. And now the PM champions ending FOM - FOM would need to be (and should be) a key part of your plan.
But GOV refused to build consensus, stoked division with its “citizen of nowhere”, “bargaining chip”, “queue jumper” rhetoric, lies about the cost of Brexit and ignores breaches of electoral law
I think we should remain in the EU but would have accepted your proposal if that had been on the table from 24 June 2016. A pragmatic compromise.

Indeed your plan should have been the minimum baseline for the UK

I welcome your efforts to find a solution but...

Jaguar Land Rover recently agreed 2 build a new plant in Slovakia with EU grant, owned by Tata, same company who trashed our steel industry & emptied workers pension funds.

#Brexit as a concept is increasingly drifting from having anything whatsoever to do with the mechanics of leaving the EU. It is now primarily a culture war and both sides will totally ignore the details except for when they are temporarily convenient.
The consequence of this is that our future relationship with the EU will be just as readily ignored as our activities as a member. They said Brexit would make us isolated, self absorbed and insular but it seems that was always the case and there are no signs of that changing.
As ever the details will be delegated to officials and civil servants while our establishment politics drifts further into its cycle of decline, unable to usefully influence external events making us entirely passive and reactive to events rather than self-interestedly engaged.

This is the first real milestone towards orderly Brexit. It should both put political fictions of exit from Brexit & chaotic no deal scenario to bed.

Substantial agreements are in place for guarantuing citizen's rights, including legal protection for the foreseeable for 8 years after Brexit.

Key is 'reciprocal protection' and avoidance of any unnecessary administrative burdens.

Positive are that necessary details on social security, health care, recognition of qualifications etc. are settled.

Ironically, this includes more access to UK social security for current EU citizens than Camerons renegotiation.
