THREAD: Those who are calling the @mercatus study proof that American single-payer health care is workable are often guilty of lazy analysis. (1/5)
First, the study shows a slight decline in national health expenditures only because it charitably accepted Sen. Sanders’ insane assumption that health provider payments could be cut 40% with no side effects (Narrator: they cannot). Otherwise, add $6 trillion. (2/5)
Second, it still leaves unanswered the question of how to convert 100% of the health care savings to states, businesses, and families into a “single-payer tax” to finance the program. Sanders himself could come up with only $11 trillion (3/5). crfb.org/blogs/sanders-…
The total cost is 11.7% of GDP. Let’s assume Washington can absorb 1.7% of GDP in state govt. savings. That leaves a 10% of GDP hole. Use the menu table and try to build a 10% of GDP tax hike. Its damn near impossible. (4/5)
Finally, for all the talk that we can *easily* design a fully paid-for & plausible single-payer plan for America…NO ONE HAS.

No one has shown realistic payment rates AND a specific tax to plan to capture the private savings.

If its so easy…Where is this plan? (5/5)
