@sunrisemvmtnc @SenThomTillis @sunrisemvmt #RBG’s passing is causing a stir. There’s a lot to unpack about the #SCOTUS. But it’s not that difficult to understand. The difficulty lies in the perceptions the public has with “what the supreme court is“. The very word “supreme“ holds very heavy connotations…1/
@sunrisemvmtnc @SenThomTillis @sunrisemvmt More people should take a stab at reading the constitution. They invoke it an awful lot, but I doubt many people have read it. The following are just two excerpts from Article 3 of the constitution that deals with the judiciary: 2/
@sunrisemvmtnc @SenThomTillis @sunrisemvmt From Section 1: “The judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish” 3/

Well I woke up to the realization that the democrats have jumped the shark. They no longer have any compunction even pretending like they want to win the election. The decision to invite a cop onto the November ticket (even a 'black' one) cements their idiocy. #FuckBiden
I was delighted to watch #Tulsi2020 take down @KamalaHarris in the start of primary season. She's done little to defend working people from the banks. Failed to go after @stevenmnuchin1 for his part in the forclosure crisis. She thought the way to address truancy was to attack..
working parents and throw them in jail, rather than addressing the underlying systemic issues. She smoked pot for years while enabling her departments to continue to arrest black and poor people for the same thing. She is so out of touch with what needs to happen to accect..

We'll try to live-tweet the @CHHSAgency reconvened Healthy California for All Commission, starting now! We demand #SinglePayer & for working-class spots on their "focus advisory groups" -- the people are the true stakeholders, not Employers nor Providers!…
CHHS Secretary and Commission Chair Dr. Mark Ghaly welcomes everyone and recognizes the efforts of organizers -- like us -- who asked them to reconvene.
So far the public comments are dominated by demands for #SinglePayer! We see and thank you, advocates and organizers! Secretary Ghaly acknowledges the "public outcry."

New @AnnalsofIM study from PNHP co-founders Drs. @swoolhandler and David Himmelstein estimates 7.3M Americans will lose health coverage by June 30, because of the #COVID19 pandemic.
1.5M American workers have already lost coverage, just in the last two weeks, and the looming #COVID19 recession will likely cause another 5.7M to lose their employer-sponsored health benefits.
Overwhelming as these figures are, they *underestimate* the full coverage losses, since they don't include dependent family members who will lose coverage, nor do they include self-employed workers who do not file unemployment claims.

Last night the CEO of @BCBSM (Blue Cross Blue Shield) took over my TV screen in an ad to tell me about all they're doing re: #COVID19.

He didn't answer a few other questions I have about helping hospitals and low-income ppl in MI as this #CoronavirusPandemic rages:

1) @BCBSM (Blue Cross Blue Shield): Hospitals rely on you to reimburse services they provide. They can't do elective surgeries that keep them afloat.

How are you helping them stay open through the #CoronavirusPandemic? Will you keep them open?

2) @BCBSM (Blue Cross Blue Shield): how are you supporting low-income ppl who AREN'T suffering #COVIDー19 but ARE struggling with the other diseases humans get, like diabetes, heart disease, or cancer and lost insurance right now?

Will you extend their coverage?

Thread on #Georgia @GaDPH Mar 13 Interim Guidance for Clinicians Evaluating, Reporting, and Requesting Diagnostic Testing for Possible #COVID19 Cases #coronavirus #publichealth. Original document available at…. I've archived it here…
Let me preface this by saying I have no medical training or special knowledge. I urge those who can to correct anything I get wrong here.

My main concern is that it remains difficult to get #COVID19 testing. People who are reluctant to take other #publichealth measures such as
social isolation frequently say things like "There are no confirmed cases in our area." IMO, that's true because too few people have been tested. So let's examine the document.

Think you have "Good Health Insurance"? So did I until I needed to use it. I had caught a virus and lost the hydration battle so my husband brought me in for IV fluids and zofran. I have no complaints about my care, but was surprised by my bill for an in-network visit. 1/
Still, I'm privileged enough that I can pay a bill like that without jeopardizing my other immediate needs. So it might have ended there, had I not mentioned it to another doctor friend. They told me that had I been admitted, the ED visit would have been covered. But . . . 2/
After THEIR inpatient experience they got a huge bill for the radiologist who read their imaging tests because despite being at an in-network hospital being cared for by all all in-network doctors, the radiologist who read their scans was not in network. 3/

PNHP has developed another toolkit for #SinglePayer supporters to use as part of our Kitchen Table Campaign. Throughout the month of February, we'll be talking about racial health inequities, and the importance of covering everybody through #MedicareForAll.
This one-page handout provides an overview of racial health inequities.
This comparison chart shows how #SinglePayer would make substantial progress in addressing racial health inequities, while a public option would barely even begin to address the problem.

But for what, exactly?

For #EconomicJustice, #RacialJustice, #EnvironmentalJustice, #EducationalJustice...and so much more.

But if you put your faith in a leader to get it done, it will all fail. As it always has.

So what do we do? WE get it done. #AllOfUs 1/
A leader, an elected official, an activist, can have all manner of good intentions. Their heart can be in the right place. They can advocate for the right policies. They can have all the right answers. They can fight for the right things.

But they’re just 1 person. 2/
It’s not reasonable to throw one person, no matter who that is, no matter how “great“ you think they are, up against the most massive corporate machine the #Oligarchy has ever been able to produce in the history of the world and expect that they can pass the agenda you want. 3/

THREAD: Let's examine all the possible ways this @ebruenig tweet represents #FakeNews -- and one of the sillier arguments for #SinglePayer I've heard in a long time... 1/
@ebruenig First of all, @ebruenig said she's uninsured because she switched jobs from @washingtonpost to @nytimes -- but she didn't say exactly why. It's possible that both @washingtonpost and @nytimes don't offer health coverage to their employees, but I doubt it... 2/
@ebruenig @washingtonpost @nytimes If she had Exchange coverage while at @washingtonpost, she could potentially qualify for a special enrollment period, if her income dropped to such an extent that she now qualifies for #Obamacare subsidies... 3/

BREAKING: The American College of Physicians has released a position paper endorsing #SinglePayer #MedicareForAll as a viable fix for our nation’s "inefficient, unaffordable, unsustainable, and inaccessible" health care financing system. via @AnnalsofIM
PNHP co-founders Drs. @swoolhandler & David Himmelstein applauded this position in an accompanying editorial (and argued against the "public choice" model that ACP also endorsed). via @AnnalsofIM
"For a century, most U.S. medical organizations opposed national health insurance. The endorsement by the @ACPinternists of #SinglePayer reform marks a sea change from this unfortunate tradition." - PNHP co-founders Drs. @swoolhandler & Himmelstein

For hose who still believe that economics is irrelevant to #SinglePayer #healthcare (or to any healthcare ‘plan’ that’s out there), I was once like you. But you and I, and everyone else like us, were/are a critical part of the problem.

Let’s begin. #MMT 1/
No matter what your goal is (starting a business, fighting a war, designing a healthcare system etc) you need the resources neasesary to be successful and accomplish your goal. To the degree that you don’t get the needed resources you will fail to meet that goal on some level. 2/
And how do we get access to resources? Money. 💰is the legal means by which we get resources. So it matters who pays for any endeavor. How much 💴 they can bring to bear is going to have a direct impact on acquiring the needed resources so you can succeed at your goal. 3/

🤦🏻‍♂️.... ok, this has been going on for two days, now, and showing no signs of stopping. So, let’s be clear:

2 days ago, CNN “Reported” that 4 unnamed Warren staffers say that, over a year ago, Bernie told Warren that “A woman can’t win the Presidency”. 1/
....four decades of evidence of Sanders saying exactly the opposite, and the fact that he encountered Warren to run in the 2016 election means nothing to CNN, it seems.... 2/
This, it seems, is ‘journalism’. What passes for hair salon gossip is just as good as real news on what we’re told to believe is a real new station. CNN bristled at being called ‘fake news’ but thinks gossip is the same thing as journalism? Ok....3/

The orthodox, mainstream understanding of federal spending is that the Federal Government has to tax and borrow to raise funds to use as cash to spend. Just like a household has to ‘earn’ what it spends and the rest has to go on a credit card. 1/
#MMT #SinglePayer #SSI
This is just another way of saying “you’re still the one that pays, you’re just putting off that payment, with interest”, most people believe the Federal Government acts in the same way; that is has, and must obey, the same financial rules and restrictions as the rest of us. 2/
This would mean that every Government program has to be paid for by you and me. We have to give up our hard earned dollars to allow the Government to pay for the military, education, healthcare, corporate subsidies, and Donald Trumps endless golf trips. 3/

Making a list comparing ALL of Bernie's plans to Warren's plans to prove she isn't more "specific and detailed and has more plans" than Bernie.

"I have a plan" is empty sloganeering and libs need to admit it.
Bernie has 31 plans on his site, Warren has 52

But bear in mind Numerical count ≠ More 'specific' or 'policy-focused' — scope and quality of these plans matter

For e.g. Bernie's #GND (1 comprehensive plan) covered everything in Warren's 'Green' plans (6 separate plans)

Truly awesome -- Italian chef's kiss -- that the elites of our great "center-left" Democratic Party would consider ::checks notes:: billionaire Michael Bloomberg as the nominee…
Love how they totally ignore the candidate -- @BernieSanders -- polling second right now.
@BernieSanders If @ewarren's centrist politics are "too liberal" for Democratic Party elites, maybe I'm wrong that it's a "big tent" party -- probably better if I describe the Democrats as a "center-right" party.

There is a glitch in this: the premise ignores how ineffective and inefficient employer provided #healthcare is in the U.S. model. California needs #SinglePayer / #MedicareForAll to have better #health outcomes.
having the boss pay for #healthcare is absurdly expensive…
it's something that @TheDemocrats like to do to our folly…

Health industry CEOs took home a whopping $2.6 BILLION in compensation last year. That's $2.6B that could have, and should have, been spent on patient care. Private health insurers are especially egregious since their profits come from *denying* health care.
Pharmaceutical price gouging bankrupts patients and makes lifesaving medications unaffordable for many. But CEOs and investors sure are happy about those relentless price hikes.
The opportunities for #BigPharma profiteering are so vast that contractors, distributors, and pharmacies are making money hand over fist...all to the detriment of patients.

.@laurapdavison misleads readers about #MedicareForAll by cherry-picking one conservative study & misrepresenting @SenSanders #M4A plan. Please issue a correction @business @maryad5 @TimothyBLavin @fdwilkinson. 1/5

Here are the facts:…
While federal spending would increase under Medicare-for-All, studies show that most households and employers will enjoy a savings. This is continually overlooked or ignored by the media. 2/5
The additional federal revenue for Medicare-for-All would come from a variety of progressive taxes, not an equal flat amount from each person and not solely by taxing the wealthy. 3/5

#ElizabethWarren's bill reminds me of Romney's advice to youths in 4/2012, "Borrow money, if you have to, from your parents. Start a business... [Jimmy John Liautaud] borrowed $20K from his dad..."

The loan was c. 7/82 and was actually $25K.
$25K in 7/82 = $59K in 4/12
In the first half of 2019, the nat'l average #rent increased by 2.6%.…
Warren declined to be interviewed for this story. In May, at request of media, her campaign released a summary of her outside work. As a senatorial candidate, Warren released a shorter version, which omitted her work for Dow Chemical.

1/ No one is happy with their health ‘insurance’ plan. No one. Those who say they are happy are confused. They conflate ‘happy with my plan’ with ‘happy with my doctors and hospitals in my plan’. But those are not the same things.
2/ When your job changes plans (as the majority do, every year, to save money), and you loose access to the same doctors and hospitals you had before, it’s not the ‘plan’ you liked, and now miss: it’s the doctors you liked - and now miss. That’s the issue. Do you see it, yet?
3/ For planned surgery, do you make sure that EVERY Dr and anesthesiologist that even looks at your chart takes your insurance? Are they ‘in network’? Do you still ‘like your plan’? And that’s work you must do BEFORE the ‘planned’ surgery. That doesn’t cover emergency surgeries.
Read 12 tweets a lot of folks are flummoxed about why Biden is able to retain such a huge lead with some Black Democrats, in spite of his history of shady conservatism.

In this thread, I'll give you my own cracked theory on why that might be.
Aside from the old conservative guard of the 1% who finances conservative Democrats regularly from Scoop Jackson to Bill/Hillary Clinton and so on, Biden's core strength seems to come from two sectors of voting Dems: affluent feminists and older Black folk.
The latter group tends to be much more conservative socially, almost as much as the Religious Right, who tend to favor Democrats only because the GOTP is owned by White Nationalists. They tend to back more conservative White Democrats in order to maintain their local privileges.
