@aldotcom I’m reading betw the lines but: the RO is in place for 2 yrs, she has custody, he’s at the house, maybe w/ her permission bc of the kids, he gets angry, charges and she shoots him.

By ‘letting’ him violate the RO, even if it is letting him see them curbside, /1
@aldotcom is enough of a signal to the police/DA that she is waffling, and therefore, ‘not deserving’ of the prima facia presumption of self-defense. The fact she is obligated to rigidly enforce the RO, make her children watch Dad get hauled off bc he *only* wants to see them /2
@aldotcom and must waive this piece of paper in the face of someone who terrifies her each and every time he violates it, no matter how small the infraction, is why even attorneys don’t always advise getting one, choosing instead to craft a careful visitation/public exchange order./3
@aldotcom I was at court 2 different times when a man shot down the mother of his children for daring to try to leave the abusive jerk. Once, after weapon screens were put up; he simply shot her while she waited in line to get into the courthouse. /4
@aldotcom I spent a decade trying to handle custody exchanges, medical treatment, parent-teacher conferences with the ex who raped me, beat me, hospitalized me, terrified the entire time. I was a known, respected trial attorney. But he was a white male who wore a tie for work. /5
@aldotcom If I was a *bitch* about following the terms of our visitation orders, our daughter blamed me for being harsh and unfeeling. If I gave him an inch and he took a mile, I was *erratic* and *failed to enforce the court orders* (sound familiar?) /5
@aldotcom It is hard enough to just keep on your feet and try to not run in the face of your abuser. You aren’t safe in public, you aren’t safe at school, and you aren’t safe at home.

You. Are. Not. Safe. Anywhere.

/7
@aldotcom The clear signal in this case is that males are granted the right to abuse, threaten, harass, and even initiate violence in the expectation their demands will be accommodated.

Even w/o an RO, this was her home, her refuge, and he threatened her aggressively and physically. /8
@aldotcom If you can defend yourself after hunting down a teenager, or after initiating an argument over disabled parking, but not do so against someone you know has & is about to hurt you again, then yes, self defense/ stand your ground are clearly male, primarily white male, benefits.
